Malinojeżyna 'Tayberry' - the most popular variety of raspberry berries
Malinojeżyna is a fruit shrub , created as a result of crossing raspberry and blackberry. It produces long, limp and branched shoots which, depending on the variety, are either spiked or thornless. Raspberry is characterized by intensive growth, reaching up to 4 m in height.Raspberry redberry is valueddue to its large (5 cm), dark red, juicy and aromatic fruits that ripen from the end of July to the end of the first half of August.
The cultivation of raspberries in Polandis carried out exclusively by amateurs, because the yields are too low and unprofitable in large-scale cultivation. Raspberry bushes can also be used in combination with other shrubs as hedging plants.
1. Raspberry cultivation station
Raspberry requires fertile and moist soilslightly acidic (pH 6.0-6.5). It grows poorly in heavy, waterlogged and clay soils.Too high humidity leads to rotting of the roots and reduces the frost resistance of raspberry berries. Sandy and dry soils are also not suitable, because this species is very sensitive to water shortage in the substrate.
For the cultivation of raspberry bushesyou should choose sunny places, quickly warming up and sheltered from the wind.Raspberry bushes should not be planted in depressions of the terrain, due to the risk of the so-called frost bogs. Low temperatures are a threat because raspberry berries are not completely frost-resistant.
2. Raspberry - planting shrubs
Bushesraspberry can be plantedfrom the so-called bare root. Then we do it in fall or early spring. These are the optimal times for the root system to regenerate after planting. Shrubs that we plant in spring should be watered abundantly after placing in the ground. When we plant raspberry berries in the fall, we build a mound of earth around the bushes to protect the root ball from freezing. If we boughtraspberry bushes incontainers, then we can plant them at any time during the growing season. After plantingraspberry seedlings, water generously , and tread the soil around the stem so that it sticks to the roots.
Single bushes are planted at 1.5-2.0 m spacing. It is necessary to use supports, due to the fact thatraspberry shoots up slender, climbing shoots . A good solution is to plant bushes next to the facades of buildings or near fences on which they can climb.

3. Cutting raspberry berries
Raspberry berries bear fruit on two-year-old shoots, which should be cut after fruiting. Suchcutting of raspberry berry is carried out at the turn of August and SeptemberApart from the shoots ending fruiting, the shoots that are damaged and with symptoms of disease and pest infestation are removed.
We cultivate the raspberry tree in the form of a column or a row. In the case ofcultivating raspberries in the form of a column , the two-year-old shoots are attached to a strong stake. After fruiting, remove these shoots and attach this year's shoots to the stake in their place, which will bear fruit in the next season. Inrow of raspberry cultivation , insert stakes into the ground between the bushes, between which two rows of wire (at a height of 5-60 and 120-130 cm) are stretched. We attach two-year-old shoots to the wires. When they finish bearing fruit, remove them and replace them with this year's shoots.
4. Malinojeżyna - other beauty treatments
raspberry shrubs are not completely frost resistantand require covering for the winter. Those grown using the lane method are bent to the ground in late autumn and covered with straw or agrotextile.Raspberry shoots are very fragile , so when bending them to the ground, do it very gently. The bushes in the form of columns are covered with scrap mulch for the winter. We remove the covers in early spring.
It is important toweed raspberry bushesregularly so that they do not have to compete with the weeds for water and minerals. To limit the development of weeds, mulch the soil around the raspberry bushes. Pine bark is perfect for this purpose.
Raspberry berries can be attacked by pests and diseases, which also threaten raspberries and blackberries. The most commonraspberry pestsare: blackberry spear, blackberry spotted and aphids. Andfrom diseases on raspberrypowdery mildew may appear. In the event of the appearance of pests or the observation of disease symptoms, the bushes are sprayed with plant protection products permitted for the cultivation of raspberries and blackberries.
There are3 raspberry varieties in cultivation in Poland- 'Tayberry', 'Loganberry' and 'Boysen'.
Malinojeżyna 'Teyberry ' - a thornless variety, the most popular among raspberry varieties. The fruits are dark red, 5 cm long, very sweet and tasty. It bears fruit abundantly (3 kg of fruit can be harvested from one bush) from the end of June to the middle of August. The bushes grow up to 180 cm in height.
Malinojeżyna 'Loganberry'- American thornless variety. The fruit is dull red, ripens in the second half of July and has an elongated, cylindrical shape. They are characterized by a sour taste and can be eaten rather in the form of preserves. This variety is sensitive to frost and requires covering for the winter.
Malinojeżyna 'Boysen'- also known as 'Boysenberry', produces sweet, raw, purple-colored fruits that resemble blackberries in appearance. This variety is sensitive to frost and requires covering for the winter.
When choosing raspberry seedlings , we should pay attention to the he alth of the nursery material. The seedlings should not have any signs of disease or any signs of pest feeding.
Raspberry seedlings should have awell-developed, strong root system. When choosing a seedling, check that the roots are not rot and damaged. Young bushes should be about 40 cm high. Do not choose seedlings on which flowers are already beginning to develop, as they are more difficult to adapt.
