Belonging to the Asteraceae family, the borough is native to North American prairies. In cultivation, the most common are hybrids of autumn leaf, marked as Helenium hybridum.
Thanks to its lush green leaves, Split is decorative from spring on. Erect, highly branched shoots grow up to 150 cm in height and are topped with basket-shaped inflorescences. Each adult, bushy plant is simply sprinkled with flowers. They are often used as cut flowers as they stay fresh for a long time. The most common are yellow, orange, red and brown varieties - with different shades and combinations. Some varieties start flowering as early as June, but most plants bloom in late summer and decorate the garden until September.

The best place for the district is a place full of sunshine. The sun's rays emphasize the intense colors of the flowers. In the shade, they fade and lose their delightful appearance. In addition to sunlight, plants require fertile, moist and well-drained soil.
The garden divider is not difficult to cultivate. It does not tolerate dry soil and should be watered regularly. Lack of water weakens flowering, so regular watering is essential for plants. This is especially important in the summer heat. However, under no circumstances should the water overflow and stagnate. Plants in flowerbeds should be mulched to suppress weeds and prevent the substrate from drying out.
In fertile soil, we don't have to worry too much about fertilizing. It is enough to feed the plants with compost or biohumus and mineral fertilizers for flowering plants 2-3 times a season. We apply the first dose of fertilizer at the end of May, after planting the seedlings in a permanent place. We use the second dose during the flowering period. The third additional feeding is required in October.
In order for the plant to branch well and profusely and bloom for a long time, it is necessary to regularly remove wilted inflorescences and dry leaves. It is a good idea to gently trim the top of the young shoots by a few centimeters.Plants should be rejuvenated every 2-3 years. During transplanting, plants can be propagated by dividing clumps into cuttings.
When the winter frosts come, the above-ground part of the district dies down. Trim the plant about 10 cm above the ground and cover it with grass, bark or agrotextile. It is true that bison is frost-resistant, but young plants are much less resistant and, thanks to the covers, they will survive winter frosts, dry winds and scorching sun more easily.
The most common method of reproducing a split is dividing clumps. In spring, we dig out the entire clump and divide it into several parts, each of which should have roots and at least 2 buds. Plants can also be propagated by apical cuttings taken in spring. We root them in a permeable substrate, which is a mixture of peat and sand, and then after 3 weeks we plant them permanently
The seedlings should be planted in the second half of May or at the beginning of June at a distance of 40-50 × 40-50 cm for short varieties and 50-60x50-60 cm for tall varieties. Young, freshly planted plants should be watered well during the first months and protected against pests.
