Table of contents

Geraniums are a beautiful decoration of our gardens, balconies, terraces and window sills. They enjoy the view of a large number of flowers of various shapes and colors. Sometimes, however, despite our best efforts, geraniums do not have flowersor their flowering is very impaired. I will try to answer what are the causes of this condition and how to remedy them. 1. Geraniums do not have flowers because they are fertilized incorrectly
It is important to give a multi-component fertilizer every 2-3 weeks.Nitrogen over-fertilization is harmful(development of green parts at the expense of flowers),helps a fertilizer rich in potassium and phosphorus(ingredients necessary to form flower buds). Geraniums that are too rarely or not fertilized at all lack nutrients, which affects the process of flower production. They form fewer, they are smaller, and then the plants stop blooming.

2. Geraniums do not have flowers because they are poorly watered
The plants do not need to be watered every day, 2-3 times a week is enough. The exceptions are geraniums that are grown outdoors in summer, with plenty of sun and high air temperature. They should be watered more often, even twice a day if necessary. Pour out the excess water from the stand. If possible, plants grown in pots outdoors should be placed under a roof. Rainfall is particularly detrimental to English geraniums. The flowers of these geraniums turn gray, fall, and new ones do not appearThe soil in the pot should not be allowed to dry out. It should be watered so that the soil is constantly moist, but not wet.

3. Geraniums don't have flowers because they lack sun
Plants need a clear position. Let's place them in places where the sun reaches at least part of the day. Warm, sunny weather is liked very much by multi-flower, bedding and English geraniums, which tolerate the lack of light very badly. The ivy-leaved geranium needs the least amount of sun.
4. Geraniums don't have flowers because they get sick
Gray mold, fungal disease is especially dangerous becausedamages geranium flower budsIts symptom is brown, enlarging spots covered with gray coating. They appear on leaves, but they also attack shoots and flowers. Excessive moisture favors the disease. It is combated by spraying with fungicides, such as e.g.Topsin M 500 SC. Recently, in amateur crops to combat gray mold, we also have the biological agent Polyversum WP at our disposal.

5. Geraniums don't have flowers because it's too cold
We put geraniums outdoors around mid-May , when there is no longer any danger of night and morning frosts. Plants also do not like drafts. They should be moved to the wintering site in October, possibly at the beginning of November, before the onset of frosts.
6. Geraniums don't have flowers because we don't remove dead flowers
Removing faded geranium inflorescencesis a very important procedure, becauseextends flowering to a large extent and protects the plant against the attack offungal diseases. Break the faded flowers off the stem by hand. In the same way, it is worth removing dead leaves.
7. Geraniums do not have flowers because they are planted too densely
Plants need a place to thrive. For this purpose, access to air, light, water and nutrients should be ensured. The plants are planted about 20-25 cm apart. Geraniums planted too densely are susceptible to diseases and are not able to absorb the necessary amount of nutrients from the ground. The flowers of such plants are small and sparse.
