Recently, the amateurcultivation of mushrooms eaten in the garden has been very popularThe mycelium of saprophytic mushrooms - champignons, oyster mushroom and shii-take which are successfully cultivated in amateur conditions. However, the real hit on the market is the live mycorrhiza myceliumedible forest mushroomsThis is a great opportunity to transfer the original flavors of the forest to your garden. But can it really be successful? Find the answers to questions related togrowing mushrooms in the garden
Mushrooms are mushrooms suitable for growing in the garden and at home
Saprophytic fungi break down dead organic matter. They cause rotting and rot, which prevents the accumulation of dead organic residues in nature. Using this property, popular in amateur cultivationedible mushrooms , such as oyster mushroom or curd moth, we can grow on cut trunks of deciduous trees (e.g. oak, beech, birch, poplar, willow, apple tree) or walnut) or on straw. In addition, they must be provided with the right temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide concentration. By regulating the environmental conditions mentioned here, it is easy to induce fruiting in these fungi. And we don't even have to have a garden, sometimes a balcony or a basement is enough.
Most often we can find in home cultivationmushroomIt does not need light. It is enough to ensure the temperature from 12 to 20 ° C. That is why it is sometimes grown all year round, e.g. in cellars. There are also ready-made mushroom mycelium kits for growing at home, containing everything that we will need for cultivation - a suitable substrate overgrown with mycelium, a bag with soil to cover the substrate, cultivation instructions, all packed in an aesthetic carton or container. It is enough to maintain moisture and the right temperature. The first harvest can be enjoyed after less than a month. Harvesting can be repeated and continued for up to 4 months.
The mushroom can also be grown in the garden. However, due to its thermal requirements, mushroom cultivation in the gardencan only be started from mid-April to the end of July. You should choose a shaded place under shrubs and trees or along a wall or a hedge, preferably on the north side.
Oyster mushroomoccurs in the natural environment in Poland. Most often it can be found in deciduous forests in late autumn. It happens that its fruiting bodies grow over the trunks of dead or dying trees in parks or gardens, just like hubs. Oyster mushrooms grow in characteristic clumps on the side of the trunk, arranged in a tile-like pattern. Their hats are dark gray to steel blue, with a diameter of 5 to 30 cm. They are suitable for marinating and drying. They are a great addition to meat dishes, which give a pleasant aroma. In addition to its taste, the oyster mushroom is characterized by high nutritional value. It can provide us with easily digestible protein, B vitamins and mineral s alts.
Oyster mushroom cultivationis carried out in shady, secluded places with high air humidity. When grown on straw, the first harvest is possible after 3 to 5 months. If we grow oyster mushroom on wood, we usually have to wait until the next year for the results.
Oyster mushroom can be grown on straw or wood
Equally attractive isshii-takeIt comes from the areas of East Asia, China and Japan. As in the case of oyster mushroom, fruiting bodies grow in groups on dead wood of deciduous trees. Brown hats can reach a diameter of up to 20 cm. They can be eaten fresh, dried or pickled. In addition to culinary properties, they also have he alth properties, being able to, inter alia, lower cholesterol. Following an old Chinese tradition, shi-take consumption was recommended for good he alth and longevity.
Edible cottage cheese - shii-take
Forshii-take cultivationyou need to find a semi-shaded place (it can be both in the garden and in a closed room). The cultivation is carried out in two periods - from February to June or from August to November, only on trunks or branches of deciduous trees. The first harvest is usually possible next spring.
Despite numerous advantages, interesting taste and nutritional values, the cultivation of the aforementioned saprophytic mushrooms is not very popular in Poland. Most amateurs of mushroom flavors prefer traditional porcini mushrooms, boletes and red mushrooms. So can these mushrooms also be grown in the garden? "While the methods of growing saprophytic mushrooms have been known for a long time and widely used, cultivation of mycorrhizal mushroomsfrom the forest, such as our beloved porcini mushrooms, or butterflies, it turned out to be much more complicated. In order for these fungi to develop, you need the roots of the appropriate tree species with which the fungus develops a mycorrhiza. We have already mentioned mycorrhiza in the article about mycorrhiza in the garden and what it is about. To make matters worse - ensuring the company of an appropriate tree species is not all. As we could read in one of the articles published in Wiedza i Życie in 2006 - Mycelium can grow underground for many years, a stimulus sent by the host plant is needed to produce a fruiting body.Scientists still do not know which substance performs this function."
But today we know that what until recently seemed impossible has become widely available thanks to the MYKOFLOR Mycorrhizal Mushroom Laboratory from Końskowola. Thanks to the achievements of MYKOFLOR, a live mycorrhizal mycelium of edible forest mushrooms has appeared in trade, which can be easily applied to trees in our garden - oaks, beech, birch, hornbeam, pine and spruce. This is a great way toforest mushrooms in the garden !
Boletus is one of the most appreciated edible mushrooms
The preparation includes the mycelium of mushrooms such as boletus, pine boletus, blackberry milkweed, goat beetle, orange-red goat-goat, common buttermilk, yellow buttermilk, green goose. We cannot be sure of success in obtaining fruiting bodies of edible mushrooms, but more and more often we receive reports from amateur gardeners about the success in growing these mushrooms. Therefore, it is worth finding out what conditions must be provided in the garden to have a chance for the appearance of tasty porcini mushrooms, goats and red pine mushrooms.
Boletus (boletus)occurs both in coniferous, deciduous and mixed forests. It develops mycorrhiza mainly with spruces, pines and oaks, preferably with middle-aged trees. The fruiting bodies appear from May to November. Unfortunately, obtaining boletus mushrooms on plots and in gardens located far from forests is unlikely, because they grow in an association with two more species of toadstools (reddish toadstool and hard toadstool), and the soil must contain bacteria of the genus Pseudomonas. However, if our garden is located right next to the forest, waiting for boletus can bring results.
After applying the mycorrhizal mycelium under the pine, there may also bepine boletus , often confused with the boletus.
Another fungus that can appear after using the mycelium Mycorrhizal Forest Mushrooms ismleczaj rydz , considered to be one of the tastiest edible mushrooms. If we want to have red pine trees in the garden, mycorrhizal mycelium should be used under pine trees (also with mountain pine) or spruce trees. Places with high, constant humidity are recommended. If the soil on the plot dries up quickly, it is worth mixing Hydrogel with the soil before applying the mycorrhiza, which helps to maintain moisture in the soil. Riga can come from July to November. "
Goats may appear under the birches from July to September
After applying the Forest Mushroom mycorrhiza, we can also expect carpenters.Koźlarz babkaandorange-red goatmanmay appear from July to September under birch trees. Buttermilk are also very popular forest mushrooms. If we use mycorrhiza under pine trees, we can expectcommon butterflies(it bears fruit from May to September). After applying the mycorrhiza under the larch, we can expectyellow buttercup(it bears fruit from June to November). The Forest Mushroom vaccine also includesgreen gooseIt grows from October to December, under pine trees, preferably on sandy soil with a lot of lichen.
The application of the mycorrhizal vaccine is very easy. Under the selected tree, about 10 cm wide, dig small holes 10 to 20 cm deep. Squeeze one portion of the liquid (about 20 ml) into the wells from the bottle you purchased, so that it gets directly onto the tree roots. We use several doses for large trees with an extensive root system. One package of mycorrhiza is sufficient to apply the preparation to a maximum of 12 trees, under which thenfungi in the garden will grow
After the preparation has been administered, bury the wells and water them abundantly. Mycorrhiza is best used in periods when the soil is wet and when the temperature of the substrate exceeds 10 ° C. It takes at least a year formushrooms to grow in the garden . However, their great taste will definitely make up for it! We should also remember that poisonous fungi may also appear after using the vaccine. Therefore, when picking mushrooms in the garden, be as careful as when picking mushrooms in the forest. I wish you a successful cultivation! "
