What flowers do we plant on the balcony in March?

March is the time to planton the balconies of biennials blooming in spring. Garden pansy has been a hit in this period for many years. Pansies are available in countless colors and in various sizes. Such a wide selection will satisfy even the most demanding buyers.

Pansies bloom from spring to summer , and sometimes even to fall. They will bloom the longest if the box or pots with them are placed in a slightly shaded place. During cultivation, remember to regularly moderate watering. We remove the faded flowers on a regular basis, thanks to which we will stimulate the plants to produce new flower buds, and thus ensure long flowering of pansies.
Pansies look beautiful when planted alone in pots, but they also look great in combination with other plants that are blooming at that time. Among the pansieswe can plant daisies, primulae, bells and sprinkled onions of hyacinths and miniature daffodils, available in March .

What perennials do we plant in March?

In March, we plant the tubers of summer and autumn blooming perennials, such as: dahlias, tuberous begonia and canna, into pots. . The plants planted out during this period will bloom faster, and the better developed tubers will absorb more easily in the ground. Before planting the tubers, they should be carefully examined. We reject all damaged and those with visible signs of rotting.
Plant the tubers in single pots(1 tuber per pot), filled with universal compost soil. We plant them not too deep: begonia - 5 cm, bead - 10 cm, and usually large dahlia tubers - 30 - 40 cm (tall, large pots are necessary). Before planting into the ground, we can soak the tubers for 15-20 minutes in an aqueous solution of Topsin M 500 SC (4-6 ml / 1 l of water) to protect them against fungal infections.

Note! When planting begonia tubers, remember that the characteristic cavity should be directed upwards.

After planting the flower tuberscover the top layer of soil in the pot with a 1-2 cm layer of sand. This will reduce water loss from the substrate and keep the tubers in the ground as the expanding roots push them upwards. Water everything lightly, trying not to wet the tubers. Place the pots in a bright, not too warm room (optimally 10-15 ° C). Too high temperature (above 20 ° C) will cause the plants to erupt.
At the end of April, every day, we put the pots on the balcony or terrace for several hours to harden the plants. Plant the plants into the ground after May 15th.
In March, we plant the late-flowering bulbs of lilies, ornamental grasses and garden ferns in March . These plants do not tolerate autumn planting and often freeze in winter. Remember that you can plant them only when the soil is completely thawed. If the thermal conditions are not favorable (risk of frost), planting should be postponed until April.

Good to know!Lily bulbs should be carefully sorted before planting. We choose those with well-developed roots, not damaged and not wrinkled. We place them in the soil to a depth of 10-15 cm, at intervals of 20-25 cm.

Ornamental grasses the day before plantingwater generously so that the root ball could be removed from the container more easily. In the garden, we plant them in moist soil, to the depth of the pot, ensuring that the entire root ball is hidden under the ground. If the outside temperature is not conducive to gardening and we have already bought grass, we should not store them in heated rooms. Higher temperature and a small amount of light have a negative effect on their growth and development after planting in the garden. Place pots with grass on the terrace or balcony, in a place sheltered from the wind.Until planted in a permanent place, water the grass in the pots so that the root ball does not dry out.
