" What is the most important when designing gardens? How to design a garden yourself to meet our expectations? Is it worth hiring landscape designers and what can they bring to the design of our garden? The answers to these 3 questions have been prepared for us by Małgorzata Tylec from the Sztuka Projektowania Ogrodów studio in Krakow. "

If we want todesign a garden by ourselvesremember that we have cheap and even completely free computer programs available on the market that help in designing gardens (such as: Garden Puzzle, Garden Composer, Sketchup etc.). Some of them have lists of plants, thanks to which we can choose the right plants for our garden in a pleasant way. However, the program itself is not enough. We need a lot of time for this and some experience in designing or setting up gardens would be useful.

It is worth noting that when choosingplants for the garden , it is not only the plants that we like that count. You need to know what plants in our climate feel good, whether they like the sun, or maybe the lack of it, what lands they prefer, near what species to plant them, what they look like in combination with other plants, and it is good to know what they look like at different seasons of the year. . After all, the garden is not just for the moment, it is supposed to look as good in 10 years, when it reaches maturity.

Worth knowing! When designing a garden, think about what it will look like in a few years. It is worth using design programs that will show the appearance and size of plants after e.g.10 years. The Garden Puzzle program available on the Internet will show what the designed garden will look like in different seasons of the year - in spring, summer, autumn and winter.

In the garden, however, not only plants count, but also the rightselection of materialsneeded to prepare the surface, walls, small architecture or paths. All this must not only be functional, but also harmonize with each other and match the style of the entire garden.

" My teacher once said: It&39;s good if the garden surprises with something, it has some humor or philosophy of its own. "
Designers' knowledge of all these issues may prove invaluable. Therefore, I encourage you to hire designers who have often been educated for many years at horticultural or architectural universities, which allows them to professionally carry out their work.

I recommend that you also hire landscape architects who have a fantastic ability tochoose the color of plants, compositional layouts, and combine textures with each other. The designer has to keep a good composition, nothing can be too big or too small.

The landscape designer must not forget about the preferences of the garden owners, their way of life, their interests, the size of the family, it all has a big influence on the garden designHe should be a bit like a psychologist who he will guess his client's needs. He will interview us, preferably in the presence of all family members, after all, everyone's preferences and needs are equally important. Before carrying out theproper design, he will prepare a soil analysis, measure the garden, and prepare a dendrological inventory of existing plants in the garden.
It's worth doing the projectin general, it can save us a lot of nerves and save a lot of money, e.g. when making paths that will be made without thought and you will have to throw away the used material and start building them from new.
