Golden ranches, harbingers of spring

Table of contents

More is prettier. A prime example of this is the small winter windmill Eranthis hyemalis.Growing singly or in small groups, a bulbous perennial about 10 cm high. However, when in milder weather in late January and early February dozens of yellow flowers flash on the shiny surface of the snow blanket, the effect is stunning.

The basis of such a performance is an appropriate, well-chosen position. Ranniki like soil that is loose, fertile and not very acidic. They feel best under the cover of deciduous shrubs, which provide shade in the summer. Wounds are susceptible to excessive moisture, as well as excessive drying in the substrate.

The cultivation of the rancher usually begins with the autumn planting of tubers. It is also worth taking an interest in brushed plants in pots, if you notice them in a flower shop. Ranches that bloom from the beginning of February will beautify our terrace. At the beginning of spring, when the soil thaws, we can plant them in the most convenient place in the garden. At the beginning, two dozen miniature plants are enough. We plant them on the lawn or in an unfilled bed under the bushes in groups of three, 30-50 centimeters apart.

We have to wait patiently for great effects, because the ranches do not develop into a dense floral carpet only after 8-10 years. The turfing process can be accelerated by collecting ripe seeds in the spring after flowering and sowing them in empty places. When we have a beautifully grown rug in the garden, we can replant individual plants. After flowering, dig them out with a root ball and plant them elsewhere.

Rancher leaves and short shoots dry up in early June.Until then, early flowering plants will accumulate enough spare substances in the tubers to start the next garden season effectively.
