In shades of fall

Nature offers us in autumn a lot of wonderful gifts painted with colors that neither spring nor summer would be ashamed of.This is a good occasion to make the end of the season not only a harvest festival, but also a festival of colors.

Gilding, popularly known as chrysanthemums, remains the number one plant for the autumn decoration of terraces. Their flowers, ranging in color from white to fiery red, tolerate the autumn chills well and even tolerate the first night frosts. They just need to be covered with fleece or newspaper. On country-style terraces, they can be displayed in casings made of wicker baskets. Transplanting into new larger pots is not necessary, because at this time of the year the gilding hardly grows any more.

Dahlias and asters also bloom reliably in the containers. A very graceful decorative material is a pumpkin, especially its decorative forms in strange shapes. They look great in arrangements with chestnuts, acorns, cones and dry leaves.Bellows lanterns are also suitable for drying clothes.

The containers must also include decorative cabbage. Its leaves take on the stronger color, the cooler the nights are.Practically every terrace arrangement can be decorated with one of the evergreen plants, e.g.boxwood. It is also worth making use of some garden accessories and tools - watering can, baskets, barrels, chests or wooden rakes, using them as casings, covers or poles to support tall plants.

Winter terrace and balcony decorations

- Autumn species of ornamental plants can be planted in containers from August to early November. The plants should be planted densely, side by side, without leaving any gaps. You can afford it, because the plants hardly grow anymore.Their care is easy and in practice it comes down to periodic watering. We stop the power supply.

- A very natural impression is made by combinations of flowering plants, e.g. heather, asters and golden shadows, with plants with decorative leaves, e.g. sage, Helichrysum and oak groves.

- The winter garden will be embellished with evergreen perennials and grasses. This group includes, among others spurge, daffodil and sedge. These plants keep their leaves and ears virtually throughout the winter. An interesting addition to autumn plant decorations can be decorative pumpkins with various, even fanciful shapes, chestnuts, acorns or originally shaped twigs.
