Every year in our gardens we struggle with numerous diseases and pests of plants. To facilitate this fight, many people use pesticides, which unfortunately are harmful to the environment around us, and often also to ourselves. Meanwhile, we are forgetting about commonly available, safe agents approved for use in organic farming. One of such preparations isgardening potassium soap , which can support us in protecting plants against many diseases and pests of plants.

Potassium soap(or simply gray liquid soap) is the potassium s alt of fatty acids. It is included in the list of substances approved for use in the European Union in organic farming, as well as for protection against pests and plant diseases.
In plant protectiongardening potassium soapwe can use primarily as an adjuvant, i.e. an additive supporting the action of a protective agent. In ecological protection, it is primarily a means of supporting the action of plant extracts and decoctions.Gardening soapadded to these preparations creates a film on the surfaces of the sprayed plants, facilitating the adherence and longer operation of the protection agent.

Howeverpotassium soap is not only an additivesupporting plant protection products. It also acts killer on many insects by itself, blocking the mouths of the air ducts on the surface of the insects' bodies and drying their skin. For example, commercially availablegarlic-scented potassium soapis effective against aphids and its smell deters them, preventing them from reappearing. Due to its disinfecting effect, potassium soap also helps to eliminate numerous bacterial and fungal diseases. In addition to its use in plant protection,potassium soap is perfect for cleaning tools, boxes or greenhouses
In plant protectionpotassium soap is used in a concentration of 1% to 3%(100 to 300 ml of soap per 10 liters of water).In the case of hard water, it is a good idea to add some spirit or denatured alcohol before adding soap. After dissolving the soap, you can add plant extracts or decoctions, depending on the pathogen you are fighting.
