Tulip - silhouette

The tulip, next to the narcissus, is the brightest star in the spring bulb constellation. Currently, no one is able to estimate the exact number of varieties anymore, but it is certain that they are counted in thousands. Tulips are generally divided into wild and cultivated. The first ones work mainly in rock gardens and natural assumptions.

Tulip growth

Tulip, depending on the variety, grows to a height of 10 to 70 centimeters.Plants develop simple or full flowers that bloom in all colors (except blue) .

Tulipan - position

Tulips grow best in sunny to semi-shaded positions, in a permeable substrate with a low content of calcium.Heavy soil is mixed with sand, one layer of sand is additionally sprinkled in the planting hole.We grow tall tulips in sheltered places.

Tulip care

Tulips (wild and farmed) are planted in late October. The layer of soil covering the seedlings should be twice the diameter of the bulb. The row spacing depends on the size of the bulb and ranges from 8 to 15 centimeters.

During planting and in the initial growth period, we feed the plants with mature compost or horn meal. After flowering, leave the leaves on the plants until they turn yellow. Wild forms are more durable than garden forms and can grow for several years in one place.

Tulip - application

Tulips are indispensable in bulb plantings, they are also suitable for mixed beds, rockeries and cut flowers. They look good in flower beds in groups of 10-15 pcs.

Tip

Tulips should be planted in wire mesh baskets. Thanks to this, the bulbs will not be eaten by voles.
