Chervil - silhouette

The strong, sweet and spicy aroma of chervil is reminiscent of anise. It used to be very popular and willingly used to season many dishes, today it is a bit forgotten.Gradually rebuilds its lost position.

Garden Chervil - a form of growth

Chervil is an annual plant that reproduces spontaneously by self-seeding, quickly forming dense clumps. They can grow to a height of 30 to 60 cm.In spring and summer, from May to August, tiny white inflorescences appear above the soft green leaves, which slightly resemble parsley leaves.

Chervil position

Chervil works best in semi-shaded sites. It likes to grow in a loose and moderately moist substrate.Too much sunlight accelerates flowering.Inflorescence shoots must be removed as soon as possible, as they inhibit leaf development.

Chervil - cultivation

Sowing of garden chervil begins in April.Systematic sowing guarantees constant access to fresh leaves, which can be harvested 2 months after sowing, when the leaves reach 10 cm in length.Plants sown at the end of September winter well in the ground and quickly form leaf rosettes in spring. Seeds are sown in rows every 25-30 cm. We interrupt the too thick chervil. Chervil can be grown in containers.

Application of the garden chervil

Chervil is mainly used for seasoning.Herb and young leaves are harvested from May to the first strong frost. The seasoning can be added to salads, soups, sauces and cottage cheese.

Tip

Chervil, combined with parsley and basil, can be a great addition to homemade herb butter.
