Roses look good everywhere. No other group of ornamental plants is as well represented as they are - current figures show more than 30,000 varieties grown around the world.Such a number is impressive and once again confirms the dominant position of the rose in the plant kingdom. And it confronts us with new challenges. Roses adapt in every part of the garden - they creep, creep, twist, grow everywhere where they have favorable development conditions.
Roses must be grown in direct sunlight for at least 5 hours a day. They should also grow in fertile, sandy loam soil. The flowerbed and large-flowered varieties are perfect for a perennial bed. Thanks to the relatively large range of available colors, which are characteristic for these groups of roses, shrubs can be arranged in many color combinations.
The best proven, long-lived companion plants for them are perennials. They blend in perfectly with roses with white and pink flowers, among others. purple flowering mossy sage, bluebell and catnip. Yellow-flowered rudbeckies and algae are very well combined with white and light pink roses.Red roses like the proximity of varieties with a slightly more subdued color. These are the distinguishing features of, among others, the white flowering mullein 'Album' and the adjective of the 'Sommerneuschnee' variety. Additional arrangement possibilities are brought by combining various forms and sizes.
Who likes the classic style should combine roses with formed boxwood bushes or lavender. The last one can also be used as a warning. Thanks to this, both roses and lavender will have a clearly delimited development space. Small bush roses are suitable for bedding plantings, but for cover use. If we choose creeping varieties, e.g. 'Celina' (pale yellow flowers) or 'Diamant' (white flowers), we can easily and quickly plant flowers on a large plot. These varieties are easy to care for and effectively inhibit the growth of weeds because they act as bedding and limit the flow of sunlight and air.
Rose, as befits a royal flower, is also perfect in the higher spheres, i.e. on pergolas, arches, rungs and bars, even on trees. If the support is sufficiently strong, stable and high, it can be followed by rambler varieties. These are characterized by long, soft shoots, which in some varieties can climb to a height of over 10 m. Popular, strongly growing varieties are, among others 'Bobby James' and 'Paul's Himalayan Musk'.
These colossi are not recommended for growing on low arches and pergolas. Insuch conditions, climbing roses and small ramblers work better. It is worth paying attention especially to the last ones. Most new varieties have the advantage of repeating flowering. The cultivars 'Super Fairy' (pink flowers up to 5 m high), 'Snow Goose' (white flowers up to 2.5 m high) and 'Perennial Blue' (purple flowers up to 4 m high) are highly recommended.
Roses can also be easily adapted to masking tasks, especially in small gardens, where it is more difficult to find an intimate atmosphere. Bush and wild roses are the most suitable for green walls. To cover the terrace, indispensable varieties of luxuriantly growing and flowering bush roses, 150-200 cm high.Dense hedges are obtained from bush roses, very dense - from wild roses. For such a luxury, however, they can choose allow few, because wild roses take up a lot of space.Anyway, we also recommend them for solitary plantings, not only because of their fragrant flowers, but also red, beaded fruit.
Fences and pergolas fall most effectively in a braid of climbing roses. Attach the rose shoots to the support with a slight inclination to the side. Thanks to this technique, flowers also appear in the lower parts of the shrub.Fragrant shrubs should be planted in places close to recreational places.A very pleasant smell is exuded by, for example, pale pink 'Compassion' and bright pink 'Laguna'.
How to grow roses efficiently?
Rose is also a solitaire of unsurpassed beauty. Bushy varieties present themselves very well in the surroundings of perennials. Climbing roses are indispensable on obelisks. Standard roses are invaluable in small gardens. In a very small space, the so-called half-stem forms approximately 60 cm high.Remember to combine pairs of shrubs so that you can use them e.g.on the lanes. It is a simple and effective way to introduce order and harmony to the garden.
Garden alleys lined with a row of stem roses add elegance and style to the whole setting.Annually cut shoots will keep their compact habit and bloom profusely.Removing fading flowers not only stimulates but also prolongs flowering. In winter, young specimens of stem roses should be covered with the trunk. Old specimens can only be covered with the crown together with the vaccination site.
