Practical Gardener: displaying the beauty of potted plants

Decorative garden in February

Remove diseased tubers from storage

We review stored dahlia carp, gladioli tubers, crocosmia, begonias, gallonia bulbs, hymenoptera and other plants. Infected by diseases or damaged we remove.

We check the condition of winter coats

You should not rush to remove the winter cover of the perennials. Remember that February is a very dangerous month for many species of perennials and shrubs, because often frosty winds combined with more intense sun cause permanent damage to plants. It happens that plants die in the early spring that have not been hurt by even greater frost.

If the perennials were covered with a perennial, check its condition, as it may turn out that it will be necessary to add a few twigs to protect the plants from the harsher sun.

Planting plan

We prepare a plan of planting in rebates and flower beds.Plants are selected to maintain the continuity of flowering throughout the growing season and to harmonize them with the already growing plant species.

We are planning purchases

It is worth drawing up a purchase plan for seeds, plants, fertilizers, plant protection chemicals and garden tools.

Flowers at home: how to display the value of potted plants?

The role of potted plants is to decorate the house. A pretty plant is not enough to achieve the desired decorative effect.It is necessary to display it properly.It is extremely important to choose the right container. It can be, for example, a flower pot in the color of the flowers of the plant.In turn, some species of plants bring a characteristic atmosphere to the house. Examples include Mediterranean plants such as myrtle, citrus trees and oleanders.

This atmosphere can be emphasized with the right dishes.In the case of Mediterranean plants, ceramic pots in terracotta color or decorated with a blue and white pattern are perfect. Cacti also look beautiful in clay pots.The dishes should also harmonize with the style of the apartment.In modern interiors, flower pots with simple, geometric shapes look best, brass or copper dishes, as well as beautifully decorated bowls and urns are suitable for classic interiors.

It is worth remembering that we will strengthen the decorative effect of plants by "duplicating" the plants. This is especially true of small-sized plants. Three identical plants in the same pots will surely attract the attention of viewers more quickly than one.Such a composition will also give the impression of abundance.

Trees and shrubs: always green laurel stem

The laurel leaf Leucothoë fontanesiana, belonging to the large heather family, is always a green shrub that grows naturally in the southern Apalachias, where it grows along the banks of marshes and in wet forests, reaching a height of 60 to 180 cm.

In Poland, shrubs grow up to a meter high, have long, zigzag-shaped, slightly branched, arched shoots.The leaves are lanceolate with a long, pointed, sharp tip.The leaf is thick, leathery, dark green and shiny on the top, and white-green and brown-dotted underneath.White, cylindrical flowers, slightly distended at the base, are gathered in dense hanging clusters on the lower side of the shoots.

To emphasize the decorative qualities of this plant during flowering, in May and June, its shoots can be raised vertically upwards and supported with fork-like rods.The laurel leaf forms a dense, thin root system similar to the rhododendron root system.

Original arched and densely leafed shoots as well as inflorescences and inflorescences growing from the leaf axils are the ornaments. The leaves for the winter take a reddish-brown color.Kiwiń requires light, humus-rich, acidic soils.It grows well in a sunny position in the garden, but protected from frosty winds.

In colder regions, it is advisable to protect shrubs for winter, preferably with branches of coniferous trees and shrubs.It looks nice when planted in heather gardens with heathers, heathers and low perennials. Leafy shoots of this shrub serve as an addition to flower arrangements, and their durability reaches up to 60 days.

The following varieties are offered in nursery production:

- 'Nana'='Compacta' is a low compact shrub, growing from 50 to 100 cm;

- 'Rainbow' with green and white leaves, with cream, yellow and pink discoloration;

- 'Rollisonii' has very narrow and long leaves and flowers gathered in magnificent inflorescences;

- 'Scarletta' is a variety of short, compact growth, capable of creating shoots. Young leaves are reddish in color, then dark green and reddish purple in winter.
