Pustynnik is one of the most characteristic garden plants, perfectly tolerating harsh winters and dry hot summers. No wonder - his homeland is the steppes of central and western Asia.In our climatic conditions it is perfect for gravel gardens and flower beds exposed to the sun.Let's also add that it is perfect for a cut flower.
Pustynnik has developed quite specific defense mechanisms, thanks to which it is able to survive in difficult conditions. For example, its leaves dry up at the flowering stage.Pustynnik grows best in a sunny, sheltered position. In spring or autumn, we feed it with compost, because it likes fertile soil.
After a few years, the plants can be multiplied. For this, we carefully dig them out of the ground and separate the young rhizomes (in summer or autumn). All desert deserters grow up to 2 meters (the giant desert creeper reaches up to 3 meters in height), they bloom in early summer.
1. We shred gravel / bark / soil and dig a hole about 15 centimeters deep.On heavy clay soils, the hole should be deeper and have drainage at the bottom.
2. We pour sand, regardless of the quality of the substrate, at the bottom of the well we put at least a five-centimeter layer of sand.
3. We plant with the utmost caution, because the rhizomes are very delicate.
4. Cover the hole with soil, then scatter the surface.Due to the possibility of plant freezing due to late spring frosts, cover the seedling with leaf or fleece lining.
