PiO: propagation of aloe and cutting of spruce and pine

Table of contents

P:A few years ago I bought a single aloe vera in a small pot. He would put out a lovely pink flower every few weeks. Then it started to grow, but recently it has been putting out small feral suckers, and the whole plant has become limp, the twigs brittle. Should I separate it and dry it slightly?

O:Aloe vera are typical leaf succulents. Theartificial conditionsthat we create for them in our apartments require in the summerregular watering(in moderation) and feeding from June to August every 10-14 days with fertilizers for cacti and succulents. It is good to dry the soil a little between waterings. In the period ofautumnandwinterwe should move them to a cool room (approx. 10 ° C), while stopping watering, but still allowing access to light. Every 3-4 yearsaloe verashould be transplanted into a slightly larger pot, into an increasingly compact, well-drained soil.

After flowering, stems are formed at the base of the aloe stemIf the flower stems are removed without allowingflowering , there will be more stems. In spring, they can be used to propagate the plant by detaching them fromshootandrootingin wet sand.

Zdziczała plantyou can try to replant it and create its proper conditions for development or break it offpropagatoriroot , thus rejuvenating the mother plant. Woody aloe trees fold and take on an irregular shape if notsupported with a stake

Q:What to do when spruce and pine trees are planted close to the house and are taller than it?

O:Pines and spruces are ultimately very large trees and take a long time to grow. They have size andshape characteristicfor species and variety.

If at some point it turns out that you need to limit their further growth byradical cutting , keep in mind that this procedure it will have to be carried out constantly, every now and then, astreewill continue to grow, as it is with a hedge. There are two schools of cutting trees. One recommends not too strong a cut in the place of annual growth, keepingnatural conicalshape crownAfter such a procedure, the cut site is hardly noticeable and not so drastic. The second allows you to cut more radically, changing the shape of the crown.

In this case, for about 3 years after the firstcut the treeregenerates and doesn't look very beautiful, and you could even say, that it was quite tragic.Only after this period, thickens becomesand takes on asatisfactory appearanceDuring such a cut, you can lower the crown quite significantly by shortening theguideandbranches , giving the pine tree a shape, for example, a ball. Very large conifers can remove the largest lower branches, which with their size interfere withgarden useor overlap too much other plants or windows of the house. Such a tree can be pruned (lower branches cut off to the desired height) even up to several meters.

If you want to haveplants woodyin your garden, with which you don't want to have so much trouble, choose smaller varieties.

Spruce trees can also be used asplants hedgerowand then cut them like any evergreen hedge. Such cutting causes densification of plants and systematically limits tree growth.
