P:I received a beautiful plant called Aucuba japonica, a beautiful plant. I would like to know more about this plant and its care requirements.
O:Aukuba is an evergreen shrub, intended for growing on a terrace or in a garden. It grows up to 2 meters in height, but there are already low and dwarf varieties that can be grown in apartments. It is very resistant to low temperature. In south-western Poland it can be grown in the ground, but must be covered for the winter.Requires a bright position, but does not like full sun.
It can be put in the garden at the beginning of April, provided that it was kept cool in winter - around 10 ° C. We are taking Aukuba home at the end of October. In summer, it requires constant humidity. From May to August it should be fertilized once a week, as a substrate it likes loamy soil and well-draining water.By using an appropriate layer of drainage, these requirements can be met.
Replant it every year in spring, it can also be topped to stimulate tillering.Aukuba breeds from apical cuttings, which take root easily at 20 ° C. For this purpose, light soil should be used, and clay soil only after the first transplanting.
