Table of contents

P:I have a garden where I plan to plant a dozen low-growing fruit trees this year: pear trees, cherries, cherries, plums, apricots, apple trees. I am interested only in disease and frost resistant varieties. Reading the horticulture guide only confused me. What varieties to ask about in nurseries?

O:Among the apple varieties resistant to scab, the following are recommended: 'Rubinola', 'Topaz', 'Rosana', 'Rajka', 'Vesna', 'Lotos' and 'Champion'.Especially the latter variety is extremely resistant to scab and mildew.Additionally, it is characterized by high fertility and very tasty fruit.

Other varieties resistant to scab and suitable for gardening are: 'Novamac', 'Priam' and 'Freedom'. However, their fruits are not as tasty as we would like. These varieties grafted on M26 or P14 rootstocks will give dwarf trees that require supports. These rootstocks give a shallow root system.Pear trees grafted on quince produce dwarf trees. These include varieties that are particularly resistant to scab, such as 'Konferencja' and 'Komisówka'.

Hungarian Wangenheim plums, grafted on the rootstock, grow significantly weaker than on Alych. The recommended varieties that are not very sensitive to shark are: 'Ruth Gerstetter', 'Peach-winiowa', 'Węgierka Wczesna', 'Opal', 'Stanley', 'Sanctus Hubertus'. Cherry varieties not very susceptible to bacterial cancer are: 'North Star', 'Groniasta', 'Pandy 103'. Cherry rootstocks are bird cherries and anti-peanuts.

Rootstocks for dwarf cherry trees have existed recently. These are 'P-HL A' and 'Gisela 5'. Recommended varieties: 'Rivan', 'Early Riversa', 'Buttnera Red', 'Pale pink', 'Donissena yellow', 'Burlat', 'Meron Premier', 'Vega', 'Sam'. No grafted dwarf rootstocks on apricots.Sometimes you can find trees vaccinated in the Hungarian Wangenheim, on which they grow weaker. These are the varieties: 'Early Orange', 'Wczesna z Morden', 'Harcot' and 'Somo'. Apricots can be grown amateurs throughout Poland, except in mountainous regions.
