Long-lived, easy-to-grow perennials with a very long flowering period are ideal plants for "lazy" gardeners. They do not need to be planted anew every spring, they do not require too much work, and yet they delight the eyes with their wonderful flowers of various colors.Among the innumerable ornamental perennials there are species that suit all habitat conditions: soil type, humidity, amount of light - you just need to be able to find them and properly combine them.
Many tirelessly flowering plants are suitable for multi-colored flower carpets. In sunny places, cheerful yellow patches will be created, for example, by undemanding perennials: Rudbeckia fulgida and Coreopsis verticillata. Compared to them, plants with purple flowers look more dignified, such as invaluable in dry places, especially in rock gardens, catnip Faassena Nepeta x faassenii or mossy Salvia nemorosa with numerous, intensely colored varieties, e.g. 'Ostfriesland' or 'Mainacht' . It is worth taking into account that these perennials are nicely combined with shrubs with pink or white flowers, especially roses blooming all summer.
Most profusely flowering perennials do not thrive in shady places. Here, however, the advantages of Astilbe tawułek are revealed. The best variety for turf grassing is the low variety of the Chinese spit Astilbe chinensis var. pumila because it creates underground stolons.Unlike other species, it also tolerates full sun and even drought to some extent. The inflorescences appearing from August to November are purple-pink in color.
Some of the taller tawułki, growing up to 80-120 cm, are also characterized by long flowering. Very effective compositions can be created from different varieties. These varieties include, for example, 'Glut' (red) and 'Purpurlanze' (mauve).
But perennials with a long flowering period are suitable not only for covering larger areas in extensive garden settings. Smaller groups, consisting of 3-5 plants, will be an excellent colorful complementdiscountsGarden designers advise to choose two or three different plants for each bed, which will form small clusters.
It is also best to plan several groups of plants of one species at once, because this type of repetition of color spots gives the garden visual cohesiveness and brings peace and harmony to it. For example, we recommend the light purple Calamintha nepeta cat scrubber, Oenothera yellow evening primrose and the blue Scabiosa scabiosa cleaner.
Light and airyperennial bedswith ornamental grasses and filigree flowers in subtle colors are currently in fashion. Two long-flowering plants are perfect for such modern plantings: the white gaura Lindheimer Gaura lindheimeri, related to evening primrose, but not the yellow, and the Knautia scabies. Both plants form profusely branched clumps, 70-80 cm high, covered with lots of delicate, swaying in the wind, incredibly romantic-looking flowers.
Perennials with a particularly long flowering period are cared for in the same way as other perennials. In spring you have to clean them of dried leaves and divide the clumps if they have grown too much. In addition, young specimens can be planted at this time of the year. The trade offers almost exclusivelypotted plants , which catch on easily.
However, it must not be forgotten that the root ball must be well hydrated before planting. Both young and old plants will appreciate being sprinkled with well-decomposed compost or organic fertilizer.
