Both my husband and I come from the countryside and every year we had our own vegetables from the plot. We are currently renting an apartment in the city and I miss my garden very much. However, I decided not to be sad, but to create a substitute for a village in the city, or more precisely in a block on a small balcony (150x90 cm)!
I asked my dad to build me a flat wooden box 60x43x15 cm for a mini vegetable garden. I lined the container with black foil and filled it with garden soil. At the end of April, I sowed radishes, lettuce and dill there and planted a few onions for chives. The sweet peas, on the other hand, were to climb the balustrade.
In early summer I was picking good chives for sandwiches and cottage cheese, as well as radishes. When it was over, I sowed another batch. Soon there was also lettuce and aromatic dill.
In addition to the mini vegetable patch, I also had flowers in boxes on the balcony: tuberous begonias, maciejka, verbena and geraniums. Pendulous lobelia grew in a pot. In my apartment, however, I sowed lavender, which I put outside in a container in September.
I am proud of my mini garden, especially when the neighbors are looking at our balcony with curiosity. I believe that with a little will and enthusiasm, you can create a beautiful flower corner and enjoy the taste of your own vegetables. You just want to do it.
