The garden at the entrance - the showpiece of the house

Table of contents

" On the garden plan at the entrance to the house, there should be a place for a path, discounts, garbage containers, and often also a driveway to the garage. These strategic areas should be laid out first. Of course, the size of the land to be developed in front of the house is also important. "

Micro

The biggest challenge is arranging a small garden. In the case of small surfaces, it is recommended to use illusion techniques, thanks to which the place will become optically larger. If we want to make a path, it is only a winding one, so that the eyesight is not led directly to the destination.Remember that the more accessories, the more interesting the assumption seems, but the whole thing must maintain a recognizable uniform style. In a small garden, you can find a pond, a small perennial bed, and even roses. We advise you to give up the lawn, because in such a small space it rarely fulfills its basic functions.

Macro scale

Large gardens provide much more arrangement options, because the large area in front of the house will certainly have a place for a lawn, a driveway for a car and woody plants. Trees and shrubs will have enough living space here, without disturbing the development of other plants. If you want to have a green living room in the front garden, it is worth separating the property from the street with a hedge, wall, panel fence or free planting of tall shrubs.

House and surroundings

In many cases, the property is part of a gated estate with uniform architecture. In such a situation, the spaces where the same materials, colors and forms were used to finish the house and the garden equipment are characterized by the greatest arrangement consistency. For example, paths made of clinker cubes fit a red brick facade, and a wooden rail fence perfectly harmonizes with a wooden balustrade of a balcony. If the house has modern steel finishing elements, it is best to make a path of natural stone, e.g. granite. In detailed planning, we choose the style in which we want our garden to be maintained.

Rural idyll and romantic atmosphere

" The rustic style is dominated by plantings of roses and blooming perennials. An attribute of such a place can be, for example, rose arches stretched over the entrance gate or the path. A dose of controlled disorder is also recommended, i.e. the plants should appear to be free and wild. Both roses and perennials come in a wide range of colors, so finding a sufficient number of suitable plants is not difficult.A much bigger challenge is getting the colors right. Pastel-colored flowers can be selected without any restrictions, because they will not dominate the plantings. We can also focus on contrasts, for example by combining orange and blue flowers or yellow and purple flowers. "

The beauty of simplicity

The formal garden is characterized by: order, transparency, harmony of shapes and symmetry. Such an assumption is designed using primarily formed evergreen plants and a limited color palette. Mandatory should be boxwood edges of flowerbeds, molded spheres, and topiary, i.e. green figures. The dominant color in a formal garden is green.

Modern Style

In a modern garden, you can combine the features of all the aforementioned styles. Apart from the known solutions, more and more often, instead of traditional fences, gabions, i.e. wire baskets filled with stones, or lawns (a type of pots), appear instead of traditional fences. The modern nature of the garden in front of the house is also emphasized by garden furniture in the same style.

Ornamental trees and shrubs

Decorative trees and shrubs can grow even in a modest front garden. Sometimes it will be a magnificent magnolia and sometimes it will be small azaleas or formed box trees. What plants we choose depends on the area that we have to develop from the street side.

First of all, it is worth choosing species that are not too branchy and have a compact habit. Worth recommending are: the beauty Callicarpa, in autumn sprinkled with purple fruit in the shape of pearls, bush rose, rhododendron, winter viburnum Viburnum x bodnantense, which in favorable weather opens some pink flowers already in November, Syrian hibiscus Hibiscus syriacus, blooming from the beginning of July to October, or tree peony Paeonia suffruticosa, a frost-resistant plant that blooms beautifully in May.When it comes to trees, it is worth paying attention to the columnar sawn cherry Prunus serrulata 'Amanogawa' or the tall European beech Betulus carpinus 'Fastigiata'. When there is more space in front of the house, you can plant there, for example, a Malus ornamental apple tree, which blooms effectively in white or pink, and is decorated with small fruit in autumn.

Garden in pots

When the space in front of the entrance to the house is too small to arrange it in a traditional way, i.e. by planting plants in the ground, we advise you to take advantage of the advantages of a potted garden. We mainly choose summer flowering plants for containers. The combination of blue-flowering Lycianthes rantonnetii and pink petunias is perfect in highly sunlit positions. If the entrance to the house is from the north, it is worth using such shade-loving plants as: profusely flowering fuchsia, hardy impatiens, tavulas, funkies, rhododendrons and colorful Brazilian urticaria.
