Chinese cabbage sowing

Chinese cabbage can be sown on seedlings or into the ground. It should be remembered that when sowing in the field, it is recommended when the autumn harvest is planned. This is due to the temperature and the risk of early flowering. However, when sowing seedlings, be careful to sow the seeds individually, because this plant does not tolerate pricking. Sowing into the ground can be carried out at the turn of April and May and at the turn of August and September. When creating seed holes, use about 1.5 cm deep and 40 cm between the rows.

Job title

Can be grown both in the field and in the ground without cover. During spring cultivation, we sow in April - May, taking into account weather conditions. However, straight into the ground for autumn harvesting, we prepare sowing around August - September.

Chinese cabbage - care

Chinese cabbage, like other varieties of cabbage, is quite a demanding plant and has a great need for nutrients. this occurs especially during the production of the cabbage heads. Its demand results from the shallow root system, which is not designed to store too much water. Regular watering during the growing phase is important.

Requires fertile and humus soil, preferably after composting or using manure. Then there is certainty that the plant will have ideal conditions for development. Keep the soil moist at a pH level of 7. In case of neglect, such as lack of water or nutrients, the heads will not deform, and the leaves will turn yellow and brown. It should be remembered that in the case of brassica and other plants, crop rotation should be used - so important due to pests and common diseases.

Set

Both in the spring and autumn harvest, we only collect large, well-educated Chinese cabbage chiefs. During the last one, remember not to be late - the plant hardly endures the first frosts. The collection may not survive.

Harvesting the heads is done manually, when they are sufficiently large, compact and fully developed. In autumn, however, you should be in time before frosts, because the plant is not sufficiently resistant to them (it can tolerate only up to about -3 ° C).
