Intriguing plants for balcony plantings

Hearts are always in fashion

Heuchera Heuchera is a perennial distinguished by beautiful leaf colors and in this respect it is second to none. We can choose from a multitude of plant varieties with leaves of lemon green, maroon brown, plum, chocolate, peach, amber, silvery and many, many other colors and tones. Most varieties also produce lovely delicate inflorescences.

Cranes can be grown in the garden and in all kinds of containers. They can be planted singly, in a group of one or several varieties, as well as in compositions with other plant species. They look very effective for a long time and do not require many care treatments. The most important thing is that we plant them in fertile, humus, well-drained soil.

Place the containers in slightly shaded places (avoid burning, strong sun). We water it so that the substrate is constantly moist and we feed it every 3 weeks. For the winter, the pots with cranberries must be moved to a cold room or carefully protected against frost.

Gladiolus in a pot

Gladiolus on the balcony? Why not! May is a good time to plant the tubers of this plant. The most suitable for cultivation in containers are low varieties, e.g. 'Atom', 'Elvira', 'Charm' and 'Claudia'.They are 40-60 cm high and flowers 6 cm in diameter, but they are as beautiful as tall varieties.

We choose quite deep pots for them, pour a 2-3 cm layer of drainage on the bottom, and then fertile, humus, well-drained soil.He althy tubers should be carefully placed, keeping a 10-13 cm distance, and cover with a 6-8 cm layer of the same soil. We make sure that the substrate is constantly slightly moist.

Gladiolus like sunny places and have high nutritional requirements, so we regularly feed them from the moment the leaves appear until the beginning of flowering. We can apply foliar fertilizer.

Eye-catching with color - bell phacelia

Phacelia Campanularia Phacelia campanularia is a little-known annual, usually grown in the garden. It is short (20-25 cm), has a lot of branching and produces charming sapphire-blue, bell-shaped flowers with a diameter of 2-2.5 cm.

Blooms profusely, but briefly, only for 3 to 5 weeks (then only single flowers appear), provided that the summer is not rainy and cloudy.Bell phacelia requires a sunny place, fertile, permeable, moist substrate (it cannot tolerate excess water).

Seeds are sown in the second half of April and May immediately to their destination. And because they are quite small, it is better to mix them with a handful of clean sand for even sowing. If there are too many seedlings, thin them out.And remember that they are fragile, so handle them carefully when quilting.

We regularly feed phacelia on balconies with fertilizer for flowering plants.

Mandewilla - sun-loving climber

Mandewilla is an eye-catching climber with large white flowers and various shades of pink and red. There are also two-color and full varieties.Blooms profusely until the first frost. It tolerates drying of the root ball well, which additionally promotes the formation of new flower buds, but does not tolerate flooding. The mandevilla is fed with a weak fertilizer solution for flowering species.
