Chili - hot pepper

Table of contents

Chilibelongs to the varietiesannual pepperI grow it in pots, although it also grows successfully in the ground. This plant needs a high temperature to germinate (approx. 20-24 ° C), so I grow it from seedlings. I sow the seeds at the turn of February and March in a container filled with universal garden soil.

I put the vessel with the seedlings on the radiator to keep them warm. I only care not to allow the substrate to dry out. When young plants appear, I pick them up in pots and transfer them to the sunny window sill (southern window). Then I keep the seedlings in an unheated, bright room.

Chili pepperis sensitive to frost. Only during the flowering period (June), when the threat of frost has completely passed, do I take the plants outside. This is important because then they have access to the insects that pollinate them. To prevent the plants from breaking by strong gusts of wind, I attach them to the railing, thus providing a solid support. During the flowering period, I feed the peppers with organic fertilizer once. The harvest period is from August to October.

Hot pepperis indispensable in the kitchen as a seasoning. I collect it on a regular basis. I have tried out that it goes well with dishes prepared, among others. made of onions, zucchini and mushrooms. Sliced into small cubes, it also completes the flavor of cheese and tomato sandwiches. Chili fruits abundantly, so every year I have an excess, which I spend on preserves.
