Beets for anemia

When my wife Inga was pregnant, she was very anemic. The doctor advised her to drink beetroot juice. It was then that I became more interested in this vegetable. I read a lot about its nutritional properties and decided to grow it myself.

Botwinka in the kitchen

Beet root and its leaves, i.e. the popular beetroot, are very rich in vitamins and minerals. They also contain substances that are said to protect against cancer. Ladies should be particularly interested in the fact that the ingredients contained in beetroot inhibit cell aging, which allows you to stay young for longer. Beetroot dishes are low in calories and easy to digest, which in turn helps to maintain a slim figure.

When my Inga found out about all these properties of beet, she decided to make it the number one vegetable on the daily menu. So he serves us borscht, salads and beetroot, usually just half a glass of carrot, apple and beetroot juice. My mother, who has high blood pressure, also discovered the great benefits of red vegetables. So he drinks raw beetroot juice, sweetening it with honey.

Growing beetroot

When it comes to cultivation, there is probably no less demanding vegetable than beet, which succeeds in most soils. It just needs a bright and sunny position. My beetroot is good even for short periods of drought.I read once that it's because they have roots deep into the ground. But of course, when I see them wilt during a prolonged drought, I water them. I sow the beets twice a season.

First in May, then I have vegetables for summer and early autumn use (e.g. for beetroot, cold soup, fresh juice). I sow them for the second time in June and then I have beetroots for the winter.
I would also like to add that these vegetables are susceptible to damage, so be careful not to damage the root when harvesting. If we mutilate it, the beetroot cannot be stored.
