Time to restore the old garden

Renovating an existing gardenis one of the greatest challenges for a designer. Preserving as many plants as possible from the old garden, which often grow in a given place for years. The risk that they will not catch on after transplanting is high, but sometimes it is worth taking the risk to achieve the desired effect.

"

This was also the case here. The old garden was built along with the house , the plants were planted chaotically, in random places, because they were a surplus of domestic production. In this way, nothing was wasted, and after three years the seedlings turned into beautiful specimens. The plot began to resemble a wild bush …
This situation could not last forever. The house was already plastered, finished, it looked dignified, but it did not fit into the surrounding garden at all. In addition, the lack of any communication routes, the driveway to the garage gave the impression of a deep mess. A decision has been made - it&39;s time for a change, the garden needs to be renewed ! But what to do with the existing green that has grown so beautifully? There was only one answer: we need adesign of a new gardenthat would take into account the plants planted, take into account the new requirements of investors and combine everything harmoniously. So, let&39;s go!The new garden was supposed to be spacious, with a large lawn where children could play freely, a gazebo located near the house, a tool house and a composter. Blooming perennials, shrubs and a landscaped slope by the terrace around. Everything is elegant, but slightly mixed up with the country garden - fragrant with lots of both seasonal and permanent flowers, shimmering with colors throughout the growing season. There was nothing else to do but create a good project. "

On the other side of the house in summer, we can admire the lavender in all its glory, and above it the beautiful Carolingian yucca. Lavender surrounding the terrace fits perfectly with the natural stone, gray and yellow granite

Renewing the garden on your own

Investors immediately indicated that they would do all earthworks related to vegetation themselves. Contact with nature is a dream moment of relaxation for them after a week of hard work. After a few hints, they went to work.
The first stage of renovating the gardenis, of course, making the surface. There are paths around the house and a driveway to the garage made of noble concrete cubes finished with washed pebbles. Everything in shades of gray and beige. Referring to the manor style of the building, circular patterns were proposed, fancifully blending into a harmonious whole. When selecting the material, practical considerations were taken into account, as granite paving stones are difficult to remove from snow.
The nextstage of the renovation of the old gardenwas the construction of granite pots - three round ones at the front and two arched ones by the terrace, instead of the common scalnik. Burnt purple clinker was designed as the lawn edge. Such a treatment perfectly exposes the shape of the grass surface, and also serves as a separator from the flowerbeds.
The shapes of arches and circles predominate, which allowed for an interesting effect in a garden with an area of almost 1,200 m².

A moment of well-deserved relaxation on the terrace: a set of exotic wood furniture accompanied by Chinese miscanthus (ornamental grass) and agapanthus growing in a pot. This is what a terrace bathed in the rays of the autumn sun looks like

Dividing the garden into zones

The old garden has been dividedinto three spaces, due to the functions they perform: at the front, there is a representative part, next to the terrace, a leisure and recreation area, and in the corner of the plot, where a composter and a tool house are placed - economic part. Such a procedure is necessary in every garden to maintain the necessary order.
In front of the house, evergreen plants such as rhododendrons, azaleas, laurel stems, Japanese pieris, skimas and conifers dominate. An interesting specimen is certainly a Spanish fir that looks like a cactus. The spherical box trees and Lawson cypresses also look impressive. Some of the plants are covered with a granite buttress, which perfectly exposes their decorative qualities and is an additional color accent.
"After a few years, the dominant trees at the front will be the sycamore maple of the Brilliantissimum variety with interesting foliage - from pale pink in early spring to yellowish with fine spots in autumn, black locust Frisia with fine golden leaves and Scots pine in a ball shape.
"Heading from the entrance gate towards the recreation garden, we will go under a wooden pergola, covered with Japanese vines, which in autumn burns with shades of red. It is a half-shade place, therefore, there are, among others, funkies, azaleas, male handpieces, forest pane, Przewalski's tongues, geraniums.
"Closer to the south side, a graceful Lennei magnolia with goblet-shaped flowers was planted, and a collectors&39; rarity - flower dogwood Rubra.

When we get bored of resting on the terrace, we can go to the gazebo located a bit further, hidden in a thicket of greenery

Colors, smells and insects in the new garden

The terrace is a special place - it is worth taking care of its surroundings. As part of the renovation of the old gardeneye-catching granite pots were designed in which lavender was planted - an extremely aromatic plant that attracts a lot of insects. Therefore, you can enjoy its scent, color of flowers and concerts played for us by all bees, bumblebees, etc., using its charms. Garden giants are planned as dominants - palm rhubarb, reaching an inflorescence height of approx. 3 m and a leaf diameter of approx. 1 m. Everything is kept in cool colors of violet, pink and white.
The space in front of the terrace was covered with a granite buttress and ornamental grasses were planted in it. In the future, it will be supplemented with walking boards.
Two spherical crowns were planted on the lawn. When they reach large sizes after a few years, they will provide some shade. Around them are designed silver-violet Perowski.
As an interestingrenovation of the old garden- instead of overwhelming full paths - irregular granite slabs were designed, blended into the grass. They do not interfere with mowing and give the garden an informal character.
The entire garden from spring to autumn is filled with lots of colors, smells and sounds. Insects and birds are regular visitors. The vegetation was supplemented with specimens that bloomed at different times. Becausean interesting garden is a colorful and dynamic garden .

The end result of the renovation of the old garden

"

It took two years to restore the old garden .Several hundred plants were transplanted, many new ones were bought, tons of soil were moved. The owners carefully take care of their garden, they have also set up automatic garden irrigation. Achieving the planned effect required a lot of sacrifice, hard work also on weekends. But it was probably worth renovating the old garden - judge for yourself. After a major renovation, the garden received a well-deserved second life. A suitable project is only half the battle … "
