A rolled lawn is a way to get beautiful grass in one day
It is worth remembering, however, that setting up a lawn from a roll is subject to several rules, the non-observance of which may be associated with the fact that instead of the dream lawn, we will have an unsightly yellowed and bulging turf. So how can this be avoided?
Prepare the substrate properly!
Before you put the rollers with grass, you need to prepare the ground very carefully. This treatment involves not only removing the old turf, but also eliminating unevenness such as stones, lumps of earth or protruding roots. You should also remember to level the place under the lawn so that the water does not flow towards the building, you need to find another outlet.
It is also worth paying attention to the condition of the soil and possibly improving it.
Proper soil condition is extremely important for the proper growth of the grass. If there is heavy or clay soil in our garden, we should sand it with washed gravel. Gravel with a grain size of 2-4 mm works well. Under no circumstances should soil be mixed with peat. And this is a very common mistake. Peat reduces soil permeability and thus may cause problems with grass rooting - says Ewa Adamek.Instead of peat, you can add a layer of better garden soil and rake it evenly. The prepared substrate must also be sprinkled with fertilizer with a high content of phosphorus, and just before rolling out the rolls, it is worth sprinkling them with water (plants will take root much better and the substrate will be cooled - which is important especially in summer).
Unfolding the rolls
The mere unfolding of the rolls is not too complicated and it resembles unfolding a carpet.Remember, however, that the grass from the roll should be laid within 24 hours of harvesting. It is best to start the unfolding with the longest straight, and arrange the next rolls so that there are no gaps between the individual green stripes. They must not overlap either.
The arranged parts of the lawn should be watered as soon as possible, preferably using a sprinkler that will evenly distribute the water. If we are happy owners of an "atypical" lawn, the turf from the roll can be trimmed and adjusted to our needs.It is also worth mentioning about setting up a lawn on slopes. In such cases, subsequent belts are arranged horizontally and secured against slipping by driving in the holding pins - says Ewa Adamek.
The grass is laid? And what next?
After arranging the grass, it should be ensured that it is absorbed as well as possible. For this purpose, it must first of all be rolled with a roller. Thanks to this, not only the contact of the turf with the ground increases, but also the air remaining between the grass strip and the ground is removed.The new lawn also needs to be watered abundantly. It is best to provide him with 2-2.5 cm of water. It is worth knowing that it should be watered every day for the first week, and every two days in the second week after its foundation. After about 6-10 days, the lawn should be mowed for the first time, 4-6 cm long. In order to enjoy beautiful turf for as long as possible, it is worth implementing a fertilization program, preferably with slow-dissolving fertilizers, and think about such treatments as aeration or scarifying.A beautiful lawn is a showcase of every home or business.
