Physocarpus opulifolius(Physocarpus opulifolius) in gardens can be planted singly, as a solitaire, as well as on hedges, both open and trimmed. Thanks to its low requirements, it is suitable where only easy-to-care plants can grow, e.g. in urban green areas. For hedgerow plantings, the bladder is predisposed tofast growth (grows 30-40 cm per year, eventually reaching 3 m in height) and tolerance to pruning.
White or pink flowerswe can admire the bladder flowers from June to JulyIn the remaining period, the bush is decorated with multicolored leaves.
It is also worth mentioning the interesting fruits. They are red follicles with yellow seeds inside them. The fruits of calinolifula bladder resemble swollen blisters and this is where the name of this plant comes from
The varieties of calinoliformesdiffer in strength and growth rate as well as in the color of leaves and flowers. Particularlyvaried color of leaves in different varieties of the bladdermakes this shrub attractive and the possibility of adapting it to a wide variety of compositions with other plants.
Among the dozen available in Polish nurseries the variety of calinoliflate pemphigus , I present the 5 most popular and, in my opinion, the most interesting.
Physalis 'Chameleon'- it is a variety of physalis with a growth restricted to the species, eventually reaching 1.5 m in height. It has very attractive foliage. Initially, the leaves of this blister variety are green with yellow, irregular margins and red fringes. Over time, they gradually darken to a purple-red color, while maintaining the bright color of the border all the time.

Dart's Gold ' - even shorter, compact shrub, up to 1.2 m high. It is distinguished by bright yellow leaves and red-orange flowers.
Fibrosis 'Diabolo'- a fast growing variety of pemphigus, reaching up to 3 m in height. It has attractive red-brown shoots with large stripes of flaky bark, dark red leaves and creamy white flowers contrasting strongly with the dark foliage. This variety of pemphigus is very often chosen by gardeners and is often contrasted with the 'Luteus' variety with intense yellow foliage and the same growth rate.
Luteus 'Luteus'- young leaves of this variety are light yellow, later turning canary yellow. White flowers, gathered in hemispherical inflorescences. Height up to 3 m.

Physalis 'Red Baron'- a variety of pemphigus reaching up to 2 m in height and 1.5 m in width. It creates dark brown branches and dark red leaves with clearly visible veins. Leaves color best in sunny places. White flowers with a pink tinge.
As I mentioned in the introduction, the cultivation requirements of the calinolifle bladderare really small. This plant grows well both in sun and partial shade, in acidic and alkaline soils, preferably moist. It tolerates frosts, strong winds and air pollution well. For this reason, physalis grows excellently in citiesThe bushes are best planted in late autumn or early spring, seasoning the soil with compost or manure.
Caring for the gall bladderis very easy. In fact, it is enough to water it in the first months after planting until it has rooted well. Then it becomes resistant to drought.
Good to know
Commonbrowning of the edges of the bladder leaves , usually found on varieties with golden-yellow leaves, may be due to from too much sunlight (sunburn) or at the same time strong sunlight in combination with drought. Regular irrigation helps in this situation. Remember that varieties with colorful leaves are more delicate than the pure species.
It is also worth remembering about the annual trimming of the bush to keep its nice habit.Cutting the pemphigusis best done in summer after flowering or in autumn, as shrubs cut in spring may weep and not bloom. "
Multiplication of calinoliformes is carried out by sowing seeds or by semi-woody cuttings. The latter method is recommended for ornamental varieties, as sown from seeds may not repeat the characteristics of the mother plant. Mainly pure species propagates from seeds.
Seeds of the bladder are sownin late fall or early spring in a cold inspection. The picker should be located in a sunny place and filled with fertile, moist, acidic soil.

In the first half of summer, take semi-woodycuttings of calliformisand plant them for a cold inspection. A large number of cuttings can be obtained after summer trimming of the hedge from the bladder. A fragment of a shoot cut for a seedling should be about 20 cm long. The cuttings are best taken from strong shoots, straight and unbranched. The bottom cut of the seedling should be made just below the bud and the top cut just above the last, top bud. The seedlings are provided with a bit of shade, a lot of moisture and a substrate that is not very fertile, well loosened with sand. In such conditions, they take root best.
Propagation of calinoliformisis quite simple and usually succeeds even if we do not strictly follow all the above-mentioned rules of seeding. Some, for example, pick woody cuttings in the fall, store them over the winter and put them in the garden soil in early spring. And this is also how it works: -)
