Freesia is a bulbous perennial plant with fragrant flowers. Used in bouquets for flower arrangements. For this purpose, it is grown mainly in cut flower greenhouses. Butfreesias can be grownalso in home gardens and flower beds, due to their charming flowers and sweet smell.
We can also plant freesias in pots on balconies and terraces and in apartments.Growing freesia in a potis definitely easier than growing in a garden. Mainly due to the fact that in the event of a sudden drop in temperature, this plant, which is sensitive to cold, and the pot, can be placed in the room.

The minimum diameterof the freesia potis 30 cm. We can plant up to 5 freesia tubers in such pots. Fill the pots with loose, fertile ground. The pot should be equipped with holes that allow excess water to drain from the substrate. At the bottom of the pot, we also make a drainage layer, made of pebbles or broken ceramics.Horticultural expanded clay is the best drainage.Freesia tubers are placed in a pot at a depth of 5 cmAfter planting, water them abundantly.
Freesia tubers grown in pots are plantedin containers at the turn August and September. In the fall, the tubers will take root and the leaves will develop through the winter. Flowers will appear in spring.
The freesia tubers planted in a pot should be kept cool(10-15 ° C) without watering but in a sunny place until the first leaves appear. When the tubers start to sprout, gently moisten the substrate, keeping it constantly slightly moist. And when the flowers fade, leave the pot in its place so that the leaves still collect the sun's rays. In this way, the plant will be able to produce enough nutrients to survive the winter.
Anotherterm for planting freesia tubers in pots is spring(late April / early May). Then the flowers will appear in summer, like in freesia grown in a garden. This term is appropriate forfreesias grown on balconies and terracesAfter flowering and removing the leaves, place the pot with freesias in a cool place, where the plant will overwinter until the next season.
