Ornaments from vegetables and fruits

Table of contents

The harvesting of vegetables and fruit in the gardens continues, and our tables are their obvious purpose. However, some of them can be used a bit differently. All you need is a bit of imagination and our delicacies can be used as wonderful decorations for your home. Which of them and what are they suitable for? Here are some inspiration and ideas for fruit and vegetable decorations.

The queen of vegetable decorations is a decorative pumpkin, which comes in various shapes and colors

Vegetable ornaments

Of course, the undoubted queen of ornamental vegetables is the ornamental pumpkin. The variety of shapes, colors, patterns and even sizes of this vegetable allows it to be used as a single decorative element, without any other additions. Placed on glass bowls or plates or loosely on chests of drawers, they look very effective and original. They also work well as an element of a complex arrangementornaments made of vegetables and fruitsIn addition, if we prepare a pumpkin properly, it can decorate our apartments for a very long time.

How to do it? The fruit should be collected together with the stalk and the skin should be disinfected by wiping with a cloth soaked in spirit (to remove possible pathogens). It should be he althy, hard and undamaged. Then the pumpkin should be dried in a ventilated and shaded place for about 3-4 weeks, remembering to turn it every now and then. The fruit prepared in this way can be taken to the apartment, where it will be a decoration for many weeks. Despite such preparation, it may happen that the pumpkin becomes softer and begins to rot. Therefore, from time to time you need to check its condition.

Garlic braids are an interesting decoration

An equally durable decoration of the apartment can beornaments made of onion vegetablesbraided in braids. The ones made of garlic are best kept. We can buy them without any problems at the local market or make them ourselves. Both white and purple varieties are suitable for this purpose. Such a braid will perfectly emphasize the character of any kitchen.A braid made of hot peppers (chilies, chillies) will also work well. It has a beautiful red, and after drying, it has a maroon color and looks very attractive. It has one more advantage. Well, garlic, which is a popular vegetable in our kitchen, will disappear from the braid faster than hot pepper. This is because small amounts of it are used in dishes.

Decorative corn is an interesting and durable vegetable for decoration

Decorative corn is a very interesting and durable vegetable for decoration. It dries and stores perfectly. Thanks to its multicolored grains, often two-color on one flask, it looks great tied together by several flasks in a vase, on a wall or as part of a dried bouquet.
Asvegetable ornamentswe can also use mature fennel seeds, after drying, it is worth spraying a little with ordinary hairspray to prevent the seeds from falling. They look beautiful as a stand-alone bouquet or as an addition to other compositions.Artichoke is a little-known vegetable with an interesting shape and excellent ornamental value. It blooms purple, and after drying, the flower retains its color for a very long time.

Dried fruit, nuts and seeds placed in glassware look great

Slightly less durable but fabulously beautifulvegetable ornamentmay be ornamental cabbage. Most often, it is bicolored, with leaves that are carved from a distance, it looks like an exotic, charming flower. It looks great in a vase, but is equally eagerly integrated into floral bouquets. And it works very well in this role.
Let's not forget about the seeds. Colorful beans or peas, after drying, will look great in glass containers. They can be divided by color and placed in small jars or arranged in layers in a glass vessel, e.g. a wine glass, creating an interesting colorful mosaic. A good complement to such a composition are grains of colored pepper, layers of colorful powdered spices or coffee beans, which will complement thisvegetable ornament

Fruit ornaments

So far I have not mentioned fruit, and they can also please the eyes with their beauty, although a bit shorter than the vegetables mentioned earlier. For simple and elegant compositions in glass vessels, we can use colored apples, e.g. the gala variety. They are relatively small, red and shiny, and quite hard, therefore perfect for

fruit ornamentsThese will stay fresh for the longest time in our homes. However, we certainly will not enjoy soft papers, as they mature and deteriorate quickly.

For simple and elegant compositions in glassware, we can use colored apples

We can also make a composition of dried hawthorn fruits or small heavenly apples and green-yellow quince. A bit of raffia, a simple ribbon or a few leafless twigs, e.g. made of a bent willow, will naturally match these fruits. In this way, a very originalfruit ornamentApples can also be sliced, dried and used as Christmas decorations together with slices of dried oranges and lemons.
The nut is also a fruitful fruit. Both the hazelnut and the hair are dried and stored perfectly. It is also very durable. Perfect for Christmas decorations. Walnuts painted with decorative spray, e.g. silver and placed in a simple glass vessel, will be a beautiful element of home decoration.

Fruit and vegetable sculptures

On this occasion, I would also like to mention the amazing art of makingfruit and vegetable ornamentscalled carving. The Thai are masters in this regard, although the very custom of carving vegetables and fruits comes from China and the imperial table. Recently, carving has also been conquering European countries, because it is difficult to resist the charm of these beautiful designs. Of course, making such an ornament is not easy, and all the elements are carved with a special knife. However, due to the growing popularity, there are already courses where you can learn this art. For this purpose, pumpkins, watermelons and melons are most often used, but also radishes, carrots, apples and many other vegetables and fruits.
To keep them fresh for a long time, such sculptures are sprinkled with ice water. But the saddest thing is that these wonderful works cannot be enjoyed for too long. Despite all treatments, they quickly wither and lose their freshness. But the effect on the table is stunning and will surely add splendor to every party.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that plants and fruits are used to make very beautiful jewelry. And so necklaces, earrings or bracelets made of rosehips, St. John's wort, rowan or edelweiss can be a beautiful and extremely original decoration of ourselves. Sometimes brides choose them instead of classic jewelry. So, when collecting baskets of apples, nuts or pumpkins, let's think for a moment about their undoubted beauty. Thanks to this, our apartments can gain additional interesting accents in their decor, and we can enjoy their beauty and boast about their ingenuity.
