Large-flowered dilution(Platycodon grandiflorus) is a beautifully flowering perennial for rockeries and flower beds, perfectly coping with our climate. It is decorated with both fully developed, bell-shaped flowers and flower buds resembling… balloons! What are the other advantages of large-flowered dilatation, what is the most important thing in its cultivation, what kind of company should be provided for it on a garden bed, and how to reproduce the dilatation?
Large-flowered dilution blooms from the beginning of summer until September
Our gardens are dominated by well-known and popular ornamental plants, such as hydrangeas, marigolds, asters, phloxes and garden roses. They are of course undoubtedly a garden decoration, but there are also many interesting and beautiful plants that are not very common, and are perfect for our garden and can be an interesting accent. Such a plant is undoubtedly a lovely tufted perennial -large-flowered dichotomy(Platycodon grandiflorus) from the bellflower family.
Diffusion bloomsin early summer and blooms until September (VII-IX), creating flowers in the form of beautiful bells on the tops of the shoots. The flowers are 5-8 cm in diameter, so they are quite large. Most often found in azure, blue, pale pink and white. The flowers are single, but there are also varieties with an interesting semi-double habit and wavy petals.
Also look interestinglarge-flowered buds , because they form green, small balloons that swell and only develop flower. It opens quite shaped and immediately of final size, hence the Polish name - gape.
Good to know!It is good to systematically remove the inflorescences of decoction after fading, because it stimulates the plant to bind the next flower buds better. It is worth performing this procedure with gloves, because the plant in the place of damage secretes thick, white juice (similar to dandelion). Dilution flowers are also suitable for a vase.

Decapitation flowers are single but there are also varieties (as in the photo) with interesting semi-double habit and wavy petals
Large-flowered dilutionlikes sunny and slightly shaded places, and does not do well in total shade. Platycodon requires moderate soil moisture, necessarily permeable, with a pH that is preferably neutral. It can withstand a slight drying out because it has a fleshy root that stores water, which makescare for a decoctionquite easy.
The most dangerous for large-flowered decay is excessive moisture and heavy soilson which the plant can simply rot. Rozar does not like transplanting very much, because it creates a long root that is easily damaged during this operation. Therefore, it is best to choose the right and final place in the garden for the infusion right away. It comes out of the ground quite late in spring, so be careful not to damage the plant during spring tending work (it's best to mark the place in autumn).
Large-flowered dilutionis rather not attacked by pests and disease.Sometimes it may be only necessary to fight snails.
The inflorescence buds look interesting, like small green balloons that swell and then the flower unfolds
In what companylarge-leavedwill be best presented at a discount? You shouldn't plant in flowerbeds with strong colors and tall plants, as their subtle charm will be overwhelmed by other flowers. However, they will look great in a place such as a rockery (dwarf varieties) or in a bed, where mainly green plants have been planted. It can also be used where the accompanying plants do not have strong, intense colors of flowers and do not need a large amount of water in the substrate for their development. Green parts of the plant die in winter. If we want to decorate the pots on balconies or terraces with potting, we will probably not be able to store it over the winter, so we either plant the plant into the ground in autumn, where it will calmly overwinter or treat it as one-year-old.
Decoction leaves are light green with a slight bluish tinge
