What vegetables are we sowing in March?

At the beginning of March, we sowseeds of radish, carrot, spinach, leek, butter lettuce and dill under the foil tunnels. Cover the sown seeds with nonwoven agrotextile to protect them against temperature drops - especially at night. At this time of year, the foil tunnel itself may not provide sufficient protection against night frosts.

If we did not manage to prepare celery seedlings, leek, early varieties of cruciferous vegetables and lettuce in February,we sow them in the first days of March . We also start the production of basil and marjoram seedlings on window sills.
In the second decade of Marchwe start growing nightshade vegetables from seedlings - tomatoes, peppers, eggplant (aubergines) and cupcakes. Remember that these are thermophilic plants. They require a strictly defined temperature for emergence. The optimal temperature for tomatoes is 22-25 ° C, for peppers 25-28 ° C, and for eggplants as much as 28-30 ° C. Maintaining such temperatures at home is not easy.In orderto provide the sprouting seeds with the right thermal conditions , we sow them in small pots, which we place next to the radiators. To ensure adequate air humidity, we cover the pots with the bottom of a plastic bottle, a jar or wrap them with foil. The temperature is controlled with a room thermometer.
At the end of March , when the temperature becomes positive at night, we can sow vegetables with low thermal requirements into the ground. We sow peas, broad beans, radishes, early varieties of radish, kale, early varieties of carrots, root and leaf parsley, parsnips, vegetable spinach, scorzonera and garden fennel.

Good to know!It is recommended to add radish or lettuce seeds to carrot and parsley seeds, which emerge much faster and mark the rows of vegetable sowing. This will facilitate care work.

Sown seeds are regularly watered and weeded , and the inter-rows are loosened.Weeding is very important to avoid vegetable competition with weeds for water, nutrients and space. Sowing in the ground can be covered with agrotextile or perforated foil to limit water evaporation from the top layer of soil and to protect emerging seedlings against frosts.

What flowers are we sowing in March?

In March we are still cultivating annual plants from seedlings. Throughout March, we sow thermophilic species in heated rooms, such as: zinnia, gazania, Peruvian heliotrope, kleome, ornamental tobacco, butterfly, Chinese aster, impatiens, snapdragon, marigold, lion, sage and Mexican marigold. The seeds are sown in boxes or multiplates. The best substrate is a mixture of peat and sand (2: 1). Special soil for sowing seeds is also available in stores.

After sowing the seeds, gently moisten the substrate with waterCover the containers with sown seeds with foil or glass to provide germinating plants with adequate air humidity, and then place them on a well-sunny window sill. We remove the cover when the seeds start to germinate to ensure the best access to light. The optimum temperature for germination is 18 ° C.
In the second half of March, we sowdimorphotica, nemesis, large-flowered purslane, marigold, Chinese carnation, garden hellings. Cover the sown seeds with agrotextile if there is a risk of frost.

At the end of March, we can start sowinginto the ground of annual plants with low thermal requirements. We sow scented peas, marshmallow, bindweed, reed, gypsophila, garden delphinium and cornflowers. The seeds are sown in rows or in projections. These are plants that do not tolerate transplanting well, so they should be sown immediately in a permanent place.
March is the time to sowdirectly into the ground of perennials resistant to temperature drops. These are: Carpathian bells, garden spotted eagle, geese and alpine asters. We can also sow lupins and sunflower seeds. Sown earlier, they will bloom longer and more luxuriantly.
