Life strewn with roses

Compositions - roses appreciate good company

The choice of the right rose depends on the style of the garden and the function it is supposed to fulfill, the position, other plants growing next to it and the care options that can be provided.Roses like company, there is only one condition - when creating a rebate with their participation, they must be the main decorative accent. Remember that they look great in a smaller or larger group, which can be supplemented with similarly growing deciduous shrubs, colorful conifers or clumps of ornamental grass, which will add lightness and charm to the composition.

When putting together individual varieties of roses, remember not to contrast too much with the habit, strength of growth, foliage, color and shape of the flowers. Due to the different shades, it is difficult to match, for example, two red varieties - it is better to choose a variety of colors.Climbing roses can be placed both on free-standing supports, e.g. at the walls of buildings, walls, but you have to choose them carefully. If the wall heats up strongly, it is advisable to shaded by bushes or trees growing next to it.

You can also plant with a rose a creeper that grows not very intensively, slightly covering the wall with leaves (milinas, honeysuckles). Climbing roses look great on supports in a classic combination with clematis.Standard roses should grow in exposed positions, and their crowns should be at eye level. You can create, for example, rows of them with tall, annual plants that do not make it difficult to cover these roses for the winter.

Selection and composition matter

It is recommended that lower roses - cover or bedding roses should be planted in groups - at least 3 bushes. You can also use a larger amount that will create a large colorful spot in the garden or used in a row to emphasize communication.Species and varieties that grow strongly, park and climbing are usually planted singly, although, for example, a wrinkled rose used in groups in greenery separating the lanes or roads - it does well there and looks great.

Planting in the immediate vicinity of roses of species with contrasting requirements for the site and substrate, e.g. heather plants, or expansive plants, strongly spreading by root suckers, strongly growing, is avoided. And vice versa - next to expansive, strongly spreading roses should not grow plants that will be choked by them.Covering and bulbous plants are used with caution in the vicinity of roses, so that they do not interfere with the care and covering for the winter.

The practical side of arranging roses

In order for flowers to appear in the composition throughout the season, the species growing next to it should have a different flowering date than the roses. In early spring, bulbs can bloom, in May and early June - many shrubs bloom, June and July are the time of flowering of roses, many perennials and annual plants. In the second half of summer and autumn, roses, especially those that bloom only once and have no fruit, should include flowering species at this time of year, with ornamental fruit and discoloration of foliage.

A good company for roses are plants with decorative, colorful leaves, such as funkies, ash old man, woolly purgatory, irresins, koleusy, spotted lemur, cranberry, colorful barberry, tavulas, colorful varieties of calinocarpus and Podolia, creating a relatively uniform background for exposure of roses flowers. Their color is the most important visual criterion when selecting other plants. The colors can be complemented with orange-peach rose flowers and golden golden flowers of goldenrod or contrasting yellow rose flowers and purple sage or lavender.

In classic rose gardens, roses are most often combined with blue, purple or white flowers of lavender, aconite, sage and delphiniums.Often a suitable procedure when creating rosaries is the use of a low border of trimmed boxwood, which also gives it a classic French character.

Working in the garden is a never ending story. We can constantly change and improve something, but remember to do it carefully. The likes of roses for specific positions, the question of how they will present themselves in the composition in a few years. These and many other questions are surely asked by every lover of plants and gardens. How to take the first step and plan a garden with a rose in the lead role?
