Dig out gladioli
We dig out the gladiolus at the end of September. After the treatment, separate the tuber from the shoot, cutting it at a height of about 5 centimeters, and then dry the tuber in a ventilated room.We winter the gladiolus tubers at a temperature of 5 to 8 ° C. We also dig out the bulbs and tubers of tiger beetle, hymenosa and coronary anemone.
We divide perennials
Garden cranberry, feathery carnation, Caucasian geese, sunflower - clumps of these perennials should be divided in September if we want them to bloom in spring. Planting them later may prevent the plants from taking root before the onset of frosts.Clumps are divided into several parts after digging with a spade or knife, selecting only the best parts for planting. After planting the plant, water it abundantly.
We plant onions
In September, we also recommend planting bulbs. It is the most suitable period for planting the longest-rooting bulbs, e.g. checkerboards or narcissus. It is recommended to start planting hyacinths, squirrels, snowstorms, snowdrops, breakfasts or grape hyacinths closer to October.Tulips should be planted at the very end.
We also plant evergreen shrubs
In September we can also plant evergreen deciduous and coniferous plants with a root ball. With such late planting, however, remember to trim the shoots only in spring, although before resuming vegetation. After planting, form a bowl from the ground and water it abundantly.
Vegetable
We are still sowing
September is the right moment to sow wintering lettuce seeds on the seedbed. A few weeks after sowing, we will get a seedling; however, we have to wait for the lettuce heads until spring. We can also sow early radishes for autumn harvesting and green picked dill.Remember to cover the sowing with a fleece or even a low foil tunnel if there is a risk of unfavorable weather.
Further collections
September for gardeners is also marked by the harvest of late-emerging vegetables. We mainly harvest green beans and onions, which we can dry for a few sunny days in the flower beds. We dig and leave the roots of the beans in the ground, which will enrich the soil with nitrogen.
We also pick up the last flushes of tomatoes and peppers, especially when significant temperature drops are forecast. Store the fruit in boxes at a temperature of 12-14 ° C, so that it is ripe.
On warm and dry days, we also collect root vegetables. We sort and cool the collected vegetables, leaving them only slightly covered at night. In a similar period, we also collect Chinese cabbage, autumn cauliflower and broccoli, just like celery.
We prepare storage rooms
When preparing for winter, in September it is worth taking care of a suitable place where vegetables will be stored in winter. Cool cellars, gazebos and specially prepared mounds are suitable for this purpose.
Beauty treatments
In the long period without rainfall, we should irrigate the beds. Remember about weeding the crop all the time.

We set the apple harvest date
When collecting fruit, remember that not all of them will be suitable for storage. This is the case, for example, with apples, the shelf life of which is primarily influenced by the date of breaking. For example, overripe fruit will not survive storage, so harvesting apples and pears should be started immediately after the first fall of he althy fruit.
We start the collection from the outer part of the crown, focusing on the colored and grown fruits. Some apple varieties have a tendency to drop fruit quickly, so let's keep an eye on the harvest date, remembering that the drops are only suitable for direct consumption.
We check the pH of the soil
The reaction of the soil has a special influence on the quality of the fruit. Most plants favor a neutral or slightly acidic reaction. The exceptions are, for example, blueberries or cranes, which require an acidic substrate.
The pH of the soil can be checked using a pH meter that costs about 30 zlotys. Its principle of operation is simple - we pour the soil onto the ceramic plate and add a few drops of Hellig's liquid to it. After 2-3 minutes, it will change to the color that you need to find on the scale. It is from it that we can read the reaction of the tested soil.
Knowing the reaction, we can find out what treatments the soil needs to best suit the plants that we plan to plant in it. We recommend checking even several times a year in different areas of the garden.
