Vegetable - I always have fresh vegetables

Table of contents

I am the happy owner of a plot of land and I cannot imagine that I could not grow vegetables on it. Although you can get anything in the stores now, the vegetable you buy will never be equal to it from your own garden.

When I was setting up my vegetable garden, I didn't have much experience and I grew most of the plants intuitively. Practice, however, makes perfect, and I can now advise novice gardeners on a number of issues. First of all, I do not recommend fertilizing the soil with artificial preparations. I use manure for this purpose. I pour water over it and store it in a barrel located in the far part of the plot.

I learned that in the southern part of the vegetable garden it is worth sowing the lowest plants (e.g. lettuce, radishes, carrots, onions), and higher and higher on the north side. I do this because supports on which beans, peas, cucumbers or tomatoes are climbing might shade other vegetables. If we arrange the flower beds in this way, the sun will have a chance to reach every plant.

Another equally important thing is the sowing dates. In order to have fresh vegetables all season long, I try to plant early and late varieties. This is the case with spring onions, for example. I plant some in March - April, and another batch in May. I pick the earlier one for chives and young onion, and the later one stays for winter supplies. I also sow cucumbers in April and just cover them with non-woven fabric so they don't get cold. A little later I plant green beans, because I only do it after the "cold gardeners". When I harvest it, I prepare an aftercrop bed of beans in mid-July. Usually, I still have time to harvest more crops before the frosts.

I grow leek, celery and tomatoes from ready-made seedlings. At home, it is difficult for me to grow he althy and strong seedlings, and you can buy them from a proven producer for little money. I am sure that the plants will give a good harvest. So buying ready-made seedlings is not an insult to me.
