Last year ended with success in the fight against moles and voles. For several years I have tried unsuccessfully to get rid of these pests. Clinking cans and plastic bottles did not help. Did not workcandles smokeandwindmillsI kept finding rodent holes full of flower bulbs and pieces of root vegetables. I was forced to look for my own solutions.
I found that since I cannot get rid of these creatures by traditional means, I must secure the beds so that pests do not have access to the bulbstulips ,irises orlilii .
I started securing the rebates in the early spring of last year.
I dug a rectangular pit 8 m long, 80 cm wide and 40 cm deep.Its sides were lined with worn 3 mm thick laminated boards. I placed the blocks so that they protrude 5 cm above the ground. I lined the bottom of the trench with the same plates, but I drilled drainage holes in them. I filled the place prepared in this way with garden soil with the addition of yellow sand. Finally, I was able to plant onion flowers. To make sure that the voles do not get to the roots, I have placed some of the more valuable lilies in plastic baskets.
I believe that the effort I put into preparing such a discount has paid off. The plants, blooming since spring, have repaid with their beauty and fragrance. This season, I intend to secure the remaining beds in a similar way. I believe the effects will be just as great and the pests won't destroy my favorite flowers.

If we do not have the possibility of securing a discount as mentioned above, it is worth planting flower bulbs in 5- liter plastic bottles of mineral water. Such enclosures will not be attractive to voles. The baskets, available in garden stores, are often not a sufficient barrier against these nuisance rodents.
