We finish fertilization
In August, we should carry out the last nitrogen fertilization of trees and shrubs this season.Fertilization at a later date may result in the plants not having time to woody before winter.
Prune shrubs
The end of flowering of many shrubs and shrubs means it's time to prune them. Young wisteria shoots should be trimmed over the 3-4th eyelet before the next flower buds appear.I trim the longest of this year's shoots by 1/3 of the length, remove undeveloped buds from others. The described method of pruning will strengthen the plant and help it bloom more profusely next season.
Lavender, in turn, should be cut to half its height, and the withered shoots of the varicella and jasmine trees should be trimmed above the lowest side shoots.Additionally, it is recommended to remove weak shoots and shorten by 1/3 of the length of those grown at the base of the plant.
Last divisions
August is the right time to divide clumps of flowering perennials with the beginning of the season - in spring or early summer. This applies primarily to sedum plants, violets, swarms and daylilies. For taller plants, reduce the transpiration (water evaporation) by pruning the above-ground part after dividing.Remember to enrich the soil if you intend to dig the plants back in the same place.
Cutting plums and peaches
Peach cutting is not a demanding procedure - we remove strong shoots that unnecessarily thicken the crown and the weakest ones, which do not produce fruit. On the other hand, when cutting a plum, remember to remove only individual branches, which we remove completely or shorten behind a properly directed branch.
We correct crowns
Crown formation should be a habit of the owners, especially of young trees, whose shoots grow extremely quickly during the summer . First of all, you should get rid of shoots competing with the guide and shorten the overgrown ones.
Cuts continued
If the vegetation of plants has shifted in time for some reason, there is still time to carry out the outstanding July cuts of cherries, cherries or raspberries. In one year, we remove about 1/3 of the branches from the tree, which will allow us to replace all fruiting shoots within 3 years.
We collect spring garlic
The first half of August is the right time to dig out spring-planted garlic. Start harvesting when most of the plants have broken leaves.
Harvesting beans
In August, we can also start harvesting the green beans. It is recommended to start harvesting when the leaves turn yellow and fall, which will be accompanied by drying of the pods.Dwarf varieties only harvest once a year, so whole plants can be cut or plucked to facilitate harvesting. In the case of tic varieties, the harvest is repeated several times, tearing the pods as they dry.
We collect cucurbits
In August we still pick cucumbers, picking them in the morning or in the evening. Remember to tear off the vegetables themselves during the harvest, leaving the shoots undamaged. It is only in August that we start harvesting ordinary pumpkins - zucchini, patison or squash. At the end of the month, we also collect melons and watermelons.
The maturity of a melon can be recognized in two ways: by an intense smell or a hollow noise coming from the fruit after tapping.Ripe melon easily separates from the stalk. Let's take care of the successive harvesting of fruit, it increases the number of fruitlets and extends the yielding.
