Begonia propagation by leaf cuttings

Table of contents

Some plants produce offspring from leaves. We are talking then about propagation by leaf cuttings. This is how, among others, begonia, sanseveria, eheveria. In the case of begonias for reproduction, take a he althy leaf without a stem. Then turn the leaf over and cut it in several places across the thickest veins.

We prepare a litter box (glasshouse) with a substrate for propagation. Arrange the leaves with the cuts downwards, press lightly and sprinkle with a weak stream of water.Put small pebbles on the surface of each leaf. Thanks to this ballast, the wounds will have better contact with the ground, thus they will root better.

Pebbles can be replaced with staples or safety pins used to pierce the leaves to the ground. We are closing the greenhouse. The inside of the vessel will be kept moist for rooting. After a few months, the young begonias should be potted.
