Healing herbs

Table of contents

The most popular spices in our kitchen include parsley, chives, marjoram, dill and lovage. However, if we enjoy Mediterranean or Asian cuisine or like aromatic teas, we will certainly not stop at classic types. It is also worth considering the decorative value of herbs, which are increasingly appreciated by plant lovers and garden owners.

Aromatic Mediterranean herbsLavender, thyme, rosemary and sage are valued for their flavor and ornamental qualities. A sunny bed with a permeable substrate, located next to the terrace, is an ideal place for these herbs. The plants grown there may be surrounded by a low row of densely growing common marl Origanum vulgare 'Compactum' or a hedge of dwarf hyssop Hyssopus officinalis ssp. Aristatus and santolina. A layer of crushed stone, covering the ground between the plants, will emphasize the Mediterranean character of the bed, and will also hinder the development of annoying weeds.

Irreplaceable in Asian cuisineare, inter alia, Coriander Coriandrum sativum and Perilla. The former likes semi-shaded positions with a moist substrate, while the perilla needs a warm, sunny place. Like basil, it grows well in a pot.

Herbs for teas:agastache is a real delicacy. The plant can be planted in a perennial bed with Calaminth's scrub and Dracocephalum beekeeping. The red-leaved fennel Foeniculum vulgare 'Rubrum' blends in nicely with the blooming perennials. Among the herbs we can also find peculiarities, such as e.g.Egyptian Ammi Visnaga. In Arab countries its fragrant flower shoots are used as… toothpicks. On the bed, white aminka flower umbels combine nicely with orange marigolds.
