March is a good time to start producing cucumber seedlings, both for greenhouses and for field cultivation.Since cucumber root system is sensitive to damage, it is best to sow seeds directly into the pot 8-10 centimeters in diameter, in which they will grow until they are planted permanently.
A good way to strengthen the root system is sowing seeds into pots filled in 1/3 or 1/2 with the substrate. After the cotyledons have grown above the edge of the pot, the container should be filled with soil, then adventitious roots will grow from the stem to strengthen root ball. With this method, it is best to sow 2-3 seeds, and after the cotyledons have formed, leave only the strongest seedling in the pot.
Another method is sowing the seeds individually in a multi-pot, 25-40 cm3 in volume, and after the seedlings have grown, they are transplanted into appropriate pots, also planting them so that the cotyledons with a small fragment of the stem protrude above their edge.
Because we can plant cucumbers under cover much earlier than in the field, it is good to mulch the soil around them with a black mat or fleece, which will raise its temperature by accumulating sunlight.
