Substrates for greenhouse cultivation

Table of contents

For the production of seedlings, we usually use a peat substrate, which we can buy or prepare ourselves. Its main ingredient is high peat with a low pH, therefore 6-10 g of chalk is used for each liter of high peat.Since high peat has almost no nutrients, it should also be added to it in the amount of 2-2.5 g of multi-component fertilizer for each liter of peat.

After thoroughly mixing the ingredients, pour enough water to obtain a moist but not wet substrate.Such a substrate is ready for use a few days after its preparation (after this time the pH of the substrate is close to neutral). It is suitable for the production of seedlings of all kinds of vegetables, they can also be successfully used for growing vegetables in containers - but then they must be constantly supplied with mineral fertilizers.

Peat substrate also improves the water-air properties of the soil under the greenhouse, in which we later grow vegetables, because it loosens its structure and increases water capacity.
