Garden planning

Table of contents

Our plot of 1,240 m² is located on the outskirts of the city, on a road leading to the forest. In the original version, there was a depression in the place of this habitat, which, for practical reasons, we had to raise, bringing over a meter of soil.

Already during the construction of the house, we thought about how to arrange the space around us. It wasn't easy. Before the concept appeared, we browsed magazines, books, we searched the web. We looked at hundreds of photos, read articles, and we couldn't make a decision about the garden.

Our plot was completely open to the surrounding space and did not provide us with intimacy. In autumn 2007, we decided to plant wild wine next to the fence. This creeper was supposed to cover us quickly. Over time, grass also appeared.

By assumption, the planned garden was not to be too labor-intensive, so we focused on conifers. However, we did not want to give up native deciduous species such as: lilacs, jasmines and fruit trees. We intuitively planted plants and kept asking ourselves - what next? It may sound funny, but the vision of a well-planned garden still haunted us.

Winter has come, and with it it is time to think about the plot in the comfort of a new, warm house. During this time, many freehand sketches and computer drawings were created. There were wavy lines on each of them.

One winter day, looking out the living room window, I imagined a dolphin-shaped discount. And this outline has probably become an inspiration for further shapes. By browsing through the designs of architects presenting their ideas in magazines, we created our own vision. We started to put trees and shrubs on the plot of the plot, sized and scaled on paper. We did not part with the catalog of plants all the time.

I recommend winter to everyone as the best time to make plans. It is easier to spark the imagination when the area is covered with white fluff. Then the visions of the perfect garden seem to have no end.

In the spring, we started to transfer the shapes of our discounts from paper to the plot. We line the arches with a garden hose. Once we had the outline of the flower beds and removed the turf from them, we started planting, which continues today.

At first, we thought we were placing our plants too rarely. That is why we started to supplement the plantings with new ones. Now we have to overdo some of them, because it is too dense … We replaced some of the planned perennials with others, because the first ones did not work. We didn't have any gardening experience, that's why our creation process is difficult and… risky.

All our discounts are covered with agrotextile, bark or gravel. In the beginning, there were more places covered with bark, but over time we replaced it with stones.Such a cut wood requires constant replenishment, and because it is not cheap, adding it significantly increases the costs of maintaining the garden.
