Roses

Roses are a symbol of perfect beauty. However, they have one drawback - spikes. Why the rose's thorns? Supposedly, to limit the aspirations of those who want to break it off … But its lovers are convinced that the spikes add a rose charm and a specific spice.

Dividing the rose into groups

Rose varieties are divided into eight groups, the most popular of which are large-flowered rosesIt is probably because we associate them with classic roses the most; these are the ones we most often buy in flower shops. These roses have large flowers and come in many colors. If we were to show the average garden visitor all the varieties of roses, he would probably point to a large-flowered rose as the most appropriate for his idea of this plant.

Roses from this group of shrubs are most often planted in gardens because they are perfect for cut flowers. They have a nicely built bud, seated individually on the stem, from which grows a large flower of one or two colors. These roses are between 50 and 140 cm tall.

Perennials can be planted around them in the garden, but most often they are planted separately in small groups. This method of planting is dictated by care for these royal plants - some varieties of large-flowered roses are susceptible to against leaf diseases, and increasing the space between them allows them to dry faster after rain (this inhibits the development of fungal diseases).

The most interesting varieties from this group are, among others, 'Mainzner Fastnacht', a rose with an unusual purple color of the petals, 'Nostalgie' - with two-colored petals (red outer and cream-white in the middle) or 'Papa Meilland' - a rose with a beautiful, intense fragrance.

Multi-flower roses

Multiflower roses are quite disease resistantThese wonderful shrubs bloom continuously from early summer to late fall. They look great in flowerbeds in the company of early-flowering shrubs, such as forsythia, quince, three-lobed almond, or perennials - from onion, such as crocus or hyacinths, through early flowering primroses and pasque-flowers.

Planting several roses from different groups looks good in the garden, although it is not necessary. And the use of other shrubs, for example, boxwood, varieties of acadis, euonymus or plants from the Ericaceae family (heather) will help create a great background for rose flowers and enhance the beauty of these plants.

Multiflower roses differ from the previous group in that their flowers are smaller and gathered in inflorescences made of full or single flowers.Their decisive advantage is abundant flowering and its good repeatability. Some varieties are suitable as cut flowers, such as the 'Queen Elizabeth' rose. Interesting varieties from this group are 'Friesia' - a yellow rose with shiny leaves and a delicate fragrance, or 'Montana' with a nice red color and single flowers gathered in inflorescences.

Among all varieties of roses for planting in balcony pots, miniature roses are best suited, mainly because they are short - they can grow up to 40 cm. They are also often used to create discount borders.

If we grow a miniature rose in a pot on the balcony, it should be properly secured for the winter or after it fades, trim it and transplant it into the garden for a bed.For planting in pots, the 'variety' is recommended Abigail ', and in pots on the patio -' Mambo nr 5 '.

Park roses

Park roses are another group of roses. They are very lively and strong. They can reach up to 2 m in height! They are disease resistant and are often used to create natural hedges. In the Rosarium in Chorzów, they are planted in small groups or on lawns, giving a beautiful effect combined with the juicy green of the grass.Park roses look beautiful next to water reservoirs. They usually bloom only once a year, but very long and intensively.

In the rosarium, climbing roses are also a large group, creating charming nooks, especially valuable on hot days. Pergolas entwined with these roses provide excellent protection against the sun. It is in these places that visitors most eagerly rest.Climbing roses are also great for covering less interesting garden objects.

Climbing roses can reach up to 5 meters in height, so you need to make sure that they grow as planned. If they cannot lean against trees or gazebos, other supports must be used.

Ground cover roses

Ground cover roses are an increasingly popular group of roses. They are especially recommended for small gardens, mainly because they can clean themselves of blooming flowers. It is an ideal proposition for people who do not have much time, as well as for beginner gardeners. This group of roses does not require any special care. Thanks to the overlapping shoots, it quickly covers the ground, inhibiting the growth of weeds.

If we want to achieve the effect of a "colorful sea of flowers" in the garden or in the park, choose reliable ground cover roses. The best varieties are, for example, 'Innocencia' - clearly visible against the background of dark green yew hedges or bark mulch, or 'Maxi Vita' - intensely flowering and perfectly covering flower beds.

Ground cover roses, which bloom willingly and often, are not the only good proposition for beginner gardeners. Historical roses are also resistant to diseases.

Historical roses are a group of shrubs that have survived for hundreds of years and have become resistant to many diseases. But how can we be sure that a particular variety belongs to the group of historical roses?According to the definition of the American Rose Society, all varieties that arose after the first hybrid of 'La France' in 1867 do not belong to this group groups. Therefore, if we want to be sure when buying a particular rose, it is worth checking when it was made.

Wild Rose …

… most often grows on the edges of forests and in meadows. This is what we call those roses that have not been changed by breeding. In horticulture, they are obtained from seeds or seedlings obtained from the natural environment. It is worth knowing that these roses (which are usually large shrubs) are best suited to the so-called naturalistic gardens, where animals live freely , there are a lot of birds and insects.

The species Rosa canina is an excellent choice, which produces large orange fruit used for pharmaceutical and food purposes, and Rosa omeiensis pteracantha - the best rose for creating defense hedges.

Few plants differ like roses in height, foliage, form, and the unmatched variety of flower shapes, colors and scents. Thanks to these advantages, roses can be selected in such a way that they fit almost anywhere in the garden. They bloom most profusely from June to mid-August.Most importantly: roses can be grown by anyone, because they are really a graceful plant.
