Worming of sweet cherries is caused by the harmful Trythnia seedfly. We find unpleasant seed larvae in the fruit.Wormy cherry fruitsare not suitable for consumption. However, worms from already harvested fruits can be easily removed.
In order to get rid of worms from cherries , put the fruit in a bowl, e.g. in a bowl, pour water over it in winter and leave it for 30-60 minutes. Underwater, the larvae feeding on the fruit will choke. Seeking help, they will come out of the fruit. When at least 30 minutes have passed, remove the fruit with a slotted spoon. After taking out the fruitthe bottom of the vessel will show dead larvae that came out of the cherryIf we do not want to see if the worms actually came out of the cherry, we can simply drain the water and rinse the fruit. After this treatmentwe can be sure that there are no worms in the cherries

That's all about saving already wormed fruit. Another issue, however, ispreventing worms in cherriesthrough appropriate protective measures. To do this, after harvesting the fruit, lightly dig the top layer of earth under the cherry treesThis partially destroys the larvae, which after leaving the fruit burrow in the ground for overwintering and pupate into adult flies. After digging, some of the larvae will simply die, drying out in the sun, and some will be de alt with by the birds. This will not destroy all larvae but will definitely reduce their number
We perform the next treatment next spring. In May, the ground under the cherries must be covered with dense gauze or non-woven fabric, which will make it difficult for the flies to escape(they fly out of the soil after overwintering and lay eggs for fruit, these eggs hatch larvae causing worming of the cherries). It is also worth hanging yellow sticky boards on the trees. Some pests will be caught on them, and when we see the first flies on sticky boards, it is also worth spraying with an insecticide, e.g. Mospilan 20 SP.

Another way tosetting the date of spraying against worms in cherriesis the observation of black locust trees (commonly referred to simply as acacia in Poland).Spray against worms in cherriesshould be done one week after full flowering of black locust.
Unfortunately, the period of fly-out and egg laying in cherries can be extended in time and it is difficult to hit the best moment with the spraying. Therefore, even if the trees are sprayed, it is also worth using the above-describednatural methods of fighting the pest that causes worming of cherries , as well as pouring the collected fruits with water in order to get rid of the worms in them, as described at the beginning text.
