WE TRANSFER PLANTS INTO ROOMSWe carefully observe the weather. In case of danger of frost, we transfer plants that are sensitive to frost, such as geraniums, silver shrubs, fuchsia, oleanders, myrtles, citrus trees, etc., to rooms where they spend the winter. Depending on the species, the temperature in these rooms should be 5-12 ° C. Plants that lose their leaves for the winter may overwinter in the dark, but species with always green leaves require light even when dormant.
WE PROTECT TUBERS AND RHETICONSBefore the onset of frost, remove the withered begonia plants and the beadwort.Dig up the tubers and rhizomes, clean them from the soil and dry them. In winter, we take them to a room with a temperature of around 8 ° C and store them covered with peat or sawdust. If planted in spring, they will sprout new shoots.
WE REMOVE FLOWERED FLOWERSWe constantly remove fading flowers or inflorescences. We collect seeds from some, e.g. interesting varieties of lobelia, marigolds or climbing plants, from which we will produce seedlings in the spring.
PREPARING FOR WINTERWe collect materials for wrapping pots and containers, in which perennials, shrubs and trees will spend the winter on the balcony. Root systems in pots are more prone to freezing than in plants planted in the ground, therefore the vessels are wrapped with fleece, bubble wrap or newspapers. It is also worth thinking about pieces of jute or straw mat, which will be used to cover not very effective security features.
