There are never too many containers with beautiful flowers on the balcony and terrace. So that our collection does not look like a group of randomly arranged plants and pots, let's try to choose flowers of similar colors, combining them with matching specimens with decorative leaves. The terrace is usually filled with warm shades of red and orange flowers with a wonderful summer aura.
The flowers of the climbing nasturtium, impatiens, kufei and lush verbena on the column glow red. Lantana in the form of a tree is covered with flowers in yellow and orange. Decorative, multi-colored leaves of koleus also draw attention.Multi-pot compositions will look attractive when the containers themselves are not the dominant element.
A successful composition with decorative plants in pots should delight not only with the colors of the flowers. We will get interesting effects by mixing plants with straight, stiff stems with specimens with slender, hanging shoots. In addition we will make optimal use of the space intended for plants in pots. Such combinations look best on a stepped rack. Lavandula stoechas lavender, dark pink geranium and silvery-leaved mugwort rise upwards in this arrangement.
Shoots of dark pink petunia and light purple nemesis flow in picturesque cascades from the edge of the pots towards the floor. Plants with straight and hanging shoots can be combined into attractive groups also in balcony boxes. The arrangement consists of plants of different shapes, characterized by high dynamics.
Arrangements whose main advantage is the romantic play of colors are still popular. Excellent results in this style can be achieved by careful selection of flowering plants.Compositions in different tones of one color are particularly harmonious, such as the one in bright pink shades. In the basket on the left side, verbena and daisies bloom. They are accompanied by nemesis and petunia in the second basket. Arrangements in shades of white, light purple or light blue are distinguished by elegance, at the same time optically enlarging the space of a small terrace.
When creating a pot garden, pay attention not only to the color of the containers that match the colors of the plants, but also to their size and shape. Large dishes look best individually, placed in exposed places, e.g. at the front door to the house. If we plan to create a group consisting of several pots, pay attention to the homogeneity of the material.
Containers of different shapes should give the impression of being made of the same material. To save the ground, tall and narrow forms can be filled with expanded clay up to 2/3. Red garland begonias, tuberous begonias and low impatiens were planted in the three pots shown in the photo. This arrangement should be placed in a semi-shaded place.
In a flower pot garden, stains of greenery soothe the eyesight and enhance the impact of the flowers' colors. We should try to plant decorative shrubs in the containers, which can reach a height of up to 2 m and take beautiful autumn colors, such as the green palm maple Acer palmatum 'Dissectum'.
If there is not much free space on the balcony, terrace or at the entrance to the house, let's try to expand the arrangements in the containers upwards. Pots with flowering plants can be placed on stools, shelves and tables of various heights. There are flowerpots with flowering cloves on several floors. The composition of plants of one species is quite modest, but various colors of flowers add to its charm. The intensity of the colors completely replaces the number of plants. Simple wooden stools and tables are safer to paint with paints matching the colors of the flowers.
In our potted garden we can feel the sea breeze, enjoy the sunny Mediterranean weather or soak up the tranquility of the Far East corner. Well-chosen colors and decorative accessories will help us create the right atmosphere. The seaside atmosphere is easily conjured up on this terrace. There are white gulls carved from wood, a white and blue lighthouse, starfish and sea snail shells.White oleander and blue scewola bloom in blue pots. You can rest on a blue painted bench.
