Most snowflakes are distinguished by snow-white flowers that appear from April. The only species that cannot survive (flowering in summer) is Ornithogalum dubium.This species is also unique because it is the only one that does not produce white flowers.
There are varieties on the market with orange, red and yellow colored flowers.In some parts of Poland, the snowflake is called a sleeper, because its flowers are closed on cloudy days.A well-known white species is the umbellate snowflake.
Food development
Śniedki, depending on the variety, reach a height of 15 to 75 centimeters. Single star-shaped flowers can be gathered in both loose and dense clusters.

Śniedki love high air humidity.Plants grow best in sunny to semi-shaded places, in a permeable, rather sandy substrate.
Snowflake care
Bulbs of winter hardy varieties are planted in autumn to a depth of 10 centimeters. Plants are propagated by adventitious bulbs from late summer to autumn.Summer-flowering non-flowering varieties are planted from April to May to a depth of 5 centimeters. Before the onset of frosts, the bulbs of these varieties should be dug up and wintered in a dry substrate, in a cool, but frost-free room.

Winter-hardy snowflakes are suitable for planting within shrubs and flower meadows.Sniedki can grow for years in one place, then they reproduce spontaneously.Tall summer varieties look good on mixed beds and are suitable for cut flowers.
Tip
Ornithogalum dubium is suitable for growing indoors.If we plant it in a pot in autumn, it will bloom in winter.
