Snowdrop - silhouetteSnowball developmentŚnieżyczka - positionSnowdrop careThe use of snowdropsAdviceThe botanical name of the snowdrop is a blend of two Greek words. Gála means milk, and ánthos means flower. It's hard to find a more suggestive name for this filigree plant.
White snowdrop flowers open in February.Flower stems, depending on the species, are 10 to 20 cm high. The snowdrop Galanthus nivalis grows wild here and is under complete species protection.Full-flowered breeding forms such as 'Ophelia', 'Cordelia' and 'Hill Poe' are intended for garden cultivation.
The greater snowdrop Galanthus elwesii is very similar to the snowdrop, it is cultivated less frequently in Poland. The Galanthus plicatus, blooming in autumn, is worth recommending. Galanthus reginaeolgae blooms from September.
Snowdrops (spring species) like sun exposure before and during flowering, but they can withstand light shade better after flowering.Such conditions prevail in front of and under the canopy of shrubs that shed their leaves.Optimum soil conditions are ensured by humus substrate, constantly moist.
Snowdrop bulbs are the size of a cherry. We plant them into the ground in September, to the holes 5-8 cm deep. Plants reproduce by bulbs and seeds (dispersed by ants).
Snowdrops form nice clusters of carpets. The lawns on which they grow are not mowed for the first time in May.Snowball can also be grown in pots and litter boxes.Note: all parts of the plant are poisonous.
Potted plants, placed in the apartment in November, open their first flowers at the turn of the year.
