Solejrolia for special tasks

Table of contents

Corsican solejrolia Soleirolia soleirolii of the Urticaceae family is a low plant with overlying and rooting shoots covered with fine leaves. These plants are characterized by vigorous growth, which quickly creates a dense, soft carpet in various shades of green.

In addition to the typical species with vivid green leaves, two more varieties are cultivated: 'Variegata' with gray-green leaves and additionally delicately edged, and 'Aurea' with a yellow-green color. Plants do best in shady, moist places.

Due to its original shape and requirements, it is often mistaken for moss and, like moss, it is used in a variety of applications. but it looks particularly attractive when displayed in large, flat dishes, in combinations using the color contrast of its beautiful varieties.

Solejrolia is very well suited for covering the ground in pots with large plants, such as fig trees or chefs. During the growth, solejrolia also grow over rocks, roots and boughs, creating picturesque landscapes (e.g. in terrariums). They perfectly imitate Japanese moss gardens - they can be planted, for example, in bonsai containers. They are also very good for creating green walls.
