Reinforcing mat for clematis

Table of contents

Some varieties of clematis, such as 'Alba Luxurians' and 'Perle d'Azur', have shoots several meters high and require special guidance.Clematis attach to supports with petioles.

These petioles are not long, therefore the support should have not very thick bars. For clematis, lattice supports are the best, giving them the best fixation. In this example, reinforcing mats with relatively small meshes.

The galvanized mats have the best resistance to rain. This is how we assemble the mat step by step:

1.) The mat is mounted modularly on the entire surface of the wall, standard construction screws are used for fixing. It is very important to keep a distance of at least five centimeters from the wall.We will be helped by trimmed spacers and washers, which, after tightening the screws, clamp the wire on both sides.

2.) Using a waterproof marker, mark the cutting line (to remove the mesh overlapping the windows and doors) and cut out the excess material with the bar cutters.

3.) After cutting, the ends of the wires should form an invisible line. This line must not run directly over the edge of the window, as the expanding plants will block the light later.

4.) Finally, the place of cutting is protected against corrosion, for this purpose, for example, use a zinc spray for cold galvanizing. In order not to stain the wall, put a piece of cardboard under the grate.
