For many of us, the kitchen is the heart of the home. Here you drink your morning coffee, prepare and eat meals and talk. However, not all plants tolerate a specific kitchen "microclimate", because special conditions prevail here. The air is often saturated with heavy greasy vapors that come out of the pots and settle on the leaves, and a large dose of exhaust gas from gas cookers. Kitchens are often underexposed, and the situation is not improved by the fact that almost every scrap of the kitchen floor and countertop must serve practical purposes.

There is little space for the plants. To decorate the kitchen, we must choose the most vital plants, resistant to light deficiency and stuffy atmosphere, but at the same time those that will not take up much space. They should fit, for example, on a window sill, in the corner of the table top, on a shelf.

Plants for the table

Plants, especially those with ornamental flowers, can also stand on the table. Remember that plants should be kept away from cookers, where they are exposed not only to greasy deposits, but also to periodic blows of hot, humid air.It is also worth choosing species with smooth leaf surfaces, which can be washed quite easily. The list of plants suitable for growing in the kitchen opens with epipremnum golden Epipremnum aureum, syn. Pothos aureus.

This climber with streaked leaves thrives even in low light. It also eagerly uses the carbon dioxide generated from the combusted gas. It is growing vigorously, but its growth is easily sustained.

Varieties with an interesting leaf color are especially recommended for cultivation, e.g. lemon yellow 'Jade' or green and white 'Marble Queen' and 'N'joy'.Syngonium podophyllum conjoined plants have similar requirements, which also occurs in many color varieties, including brown-pink leaves. In the kitchen, you can also successfully grow Sternberg's herb with arched leaves. An additional advantage of the herb plant is its often blooming dangling stolons on which young rosettes develop.

A unique variety of the herb

A particularly intriguing variety of herbaceous plant is 'Bonnie' with twisted leaves. Other undemanding houseplants recommended for the kitchen are the soaring Sansevieria trifasciata of Guinean Sansevieria, Aglaonema Shade-loving aglonema, Spatyphyllum, Spatyphyllum, Ficus pumila and the lower cultivars of Benjamin F. benjamin.

Flowering species are also an interesting proposition for the kitchen. For example, multi-colored varieties of Kalanchoe Blossfeld Kalanchoe blossfeldiana are reliable in cultivation. It is also worth paying attention to the graceful exacum related to Exacum affine.A bit of color can also be introduced into the kitchen with the Chinese rose Hibiscus rosasinensis, Cyclamen cyclamen or Schlumberger pellet. In some kitchens, bromeliads such as guzmania, Neoregelia and Vriesea can feel good, and even orchids, especially the easiest to grow varieties of the genus Phalaenopsis.
